• feedreader 3.0

i've just posted the latest version of feedreader to my site for download.  there are some things you should know:

    • there is no compatability between any prior version.  yes this sucks, and i'm kinda mad about it myself, but hey, it's free.  there are good reasons for this break in compat, so deal with it ;-)
    • new syndication library with broader support for feeds (and improved performance)
    • international language support (yeah, special characters! --vi kanne se våre omgangsspråk nå!)
    • removed the branding/copyright from the initial user view (moved to toolpane...hey, it's still free)
    • changed option on how to filter feeds (can use none, days, item count)
    • initial support for Atom 0.3 format -- there may be some kinks with this one, so if you see some, let me know
    • added collapse/expand capabilities for description viewing
    • removed dependency on sharepoint image files, all self contained
    • special note: i no longer include a sharepoint installer (just an msi installer to deploy the files)...the reason is simple...you should decide how you want to install it...i won't force you either way.

i hope you like it...if you don't, let me know why.

I especially like the new filter options - very handy.

I tried this with a number of feeds but didn't get the expand/collapse funstionality. Any ideas why?

to enable collapse/expand change the property in the toolpane by unchecking "hide descriptions"

I was just coming in to say that setting the height to 400 pixels would give 10 items from Download Center (first) and then ten items from the MSDN Just Published (useful sample feed !), but then (!) I saw Filter Type = Items and Filter Value = 10 and my problems were solved much more elegantly!

    Thanks, Tim.

(In view of what happened last time I posted a review in the WSS newsgroup I'm only going to mention this in my blog). No need to go out of my way to attract nastiness.

Most people only wanted the first 5 items so I set the filter to five, but now there's others that want them all too. Could there be a button to toggle the filter? People are just never happy huh?

    Hi,

we have a portal server 2003 under ssl, if we put the rrs feed on the page, the browser: " comes with a screen, if you really want to go outside the ssl side" is this possible to change?

    Could this be a solution?:
Can we get a xml file from the internet(donwload) and copy the xml file to the local server, so the server thinks he's inside the ssl, and points the rss feed to the localserver adres?

    please help me...

    thanks,

    Hi again,

I thought I should add the following to my question.

When I click the "open the tool pane..." I also get the following error message

"Cannot edit this Web Part's properties. The zone this Web Part is in does not allow property changes"

I suppose that the problem might be my permissions or something similar. Any ideas on how I can get correct this?

    Best Regards,
    Andreas

    a) Installed using stsadm as described, definately Full, definately returned by -o enumpacks, definately no authentication on the server (IP-based).

    b) Error is "Searching for your RSS feed has timed out.
If you use a proxy server, please make sure the address and port are correct in the Web Part settings.
If you do not use a proxy server, please validate the RSS feed URL is correct."

    Great webpart.

Is there any chance to translate all texts? At least the "last update on:" text? Really all the texts are compiled in DLLs?
I haven't found any inside the unpacked CAB file.

    Thanks :Ol

Just added your feedreader using stsadm successfully. We are using sharepoint Portal 2003. I was able to add the web part to the page but when I clicked on open tool pane to add more links I recevied an error saying The zone this Web Part is in does not allow property changes. Is this because I'm using portal and not sharepoint services?
