• United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard

i've recently purchased an ebay item where the seller used the usps priority mail to ship it...and kindly enough sent me the tracking information for it...

so naturally i go to the usps.com site to get tracking information...what a lie.  the tracking information only appears to get updated once the package is delivered...so much for the usps to provide up-to-date tracking...i wonder why it is even offered...

My feelings exactly. I purchase quite a lot from suppliers that use UPS and it's frustrating to only see the tracking when it's on my doorstep. FedEx's tracking is lightyears ahead.

Hey Tim, maybe what you don't seem to realize is that Priority Mail doesn't have tracking, unless you purchase it separatly... I think it's registered, certified, or return recepit. Now Express Mail does have tracking built in to the purchase of the express mail postage. Look into it.

I love the UPS and FedEX tracking. But USPS sucks. I've gotten two of my packages today and I've checked their site and it still says that they've just recieved the package from the sender and that they'll update the information, if available. Then at the last several minutes I got an email (I subscribed to the track & confirm by email) that it got delivered to my house. Stupid. And the first email I got from this was the starting point as to where my package is currently located. It doesn't update me on where it was heading next, either. USPS is a freaking joke and they should really just... die. I'm happy with FedEx/UPS. I'm sure Airborne is good too but I never used them before. As long as the tracking is good I'm happy with it. I'm upset that most of the stuff I ordered used USPS. They should just rot and die.

what's the deal with this postal service? tracking has no use if you can't see what has happened to your post. why do they even bother placing a tracking number if they do not update daily? up to this time, the same message still appears since day 1. that was the day the person shipped the item.

I live in Canada and IT'S BEEN OVER FIVE WEEKS NOW since the seller in Massachusetts sent my keyboard and guess what?(you guessed right I am livid right now). A sampler I bought from St. Paul Minnesota was sent to me in two packages; the first one got here in a week(!) and now two weeks after getting that one the second one is still nowhere to be seen. I am poor and just dropped my whole tax return on my dream music gear and now it looks like they went and threw anything with my name on it in the dumpster(except for part one of the St. Paul order which as luck would have it had all the cables to run it in the second box!) Yes I learned my lesson and yes USPS SHOULD DIE OF CANCER OF THE FACE!

I had a big blow out at my local usps located in wykagyl, new rochelle. I shipped a watch back to china that cost me $125.00, the clerk never asked me if I wanted insurance or tracking she took my package threw it into a box on the floor and charged me so I paid and left.. What Im not a usps expert I figured she was doing her job so I took it at face value. Well, the box never got to China, still missing some 3 months later til this day which is 6/9/08. So, basicall I lost my watch and money. With no tracking or insurance I was livid because I wasn't offered any by the clerk.OF COURSE the clerk said she offered it (LIAR). So I got nothing, no way to trace, track or figure out what happened.. So what would stop a USPS employee from just taking it home? I don't know? I raised HELL, but still I got nothing!

I don't understand, if I paid like $7.00 to ship this watch to China why doesn't that count for anything? Why is it that the USPS charges extra to be able to say to you 'we gaurantee your addressee will get this item" which is their job right? You give them a package, you pay and aren't they supposed to get your item to the other end where the person is waiting for it? Why do I have to pay extra for that?

I HATE THE USPS!! Also it sure seems coincidental that whenever I ship anything overseas without insurance it NEVER gets there!!! Wow!!! I guess the message is that if you don't pay the extra money you are giving your item away as a gift to some stranger.. Remember when you pay insurance the post office puts a stamp indicating there is insurance on the package.. but doesn't this make it very easy for a theif to know which packages are vulnerable to theft? In other words a worker can say 'OH LOOK NO INSURANCE STAMP, I CAN STEAL THIS WITHOUT AN INVESTIGATION" How about making every package look the same whether or not it's insured? HUH USPS??

    CROOKS!!

while USPS charge you around thirty dollars to send a document
overseas in express mail and promise you tracking the mail, it seems not
to be deligent about the tracking process. About two weeks ago, I sent a package overseas in express mail, USPS tracking information only shows the record of initial shipment of the package from JFK airport, no other updated record is shown!

    GRRRRR.

I ordered two packages online from the Czech Republic, on Sunday. The vendor mailed them on Tuesday, and gave me a USPS tracking number. Now it is Friday morning, and USPS tracking still says that they don't have my packages yet. The vendor promises 4 days to deliver (after sending) to the U.S., so it should be here today, still, tracking at USPS says the post office is still waiting for it. Their tracking SUCKS. I know they have it, because the Czech Republic mail service, ironicly, was able to confirm that they delivered it to USPS days ago! So its official, we have worse than a third world mail service.

I've had a lot of experience with priority mail. Basically, you get what you pay for. Priority mail, for lighter shipments, is usually much cheaper than ups or fedex, and almost always comes within 2-3 days, depending on the distance (there's a strange formula here--if you're close enough to the shipping origin they won't ship by air and it'll take longer than if it were further away) There's only one package that took too long, and the local post office managed to misplace the package. The tracking is indeed worse than UPS, but packages come in usually a third the time than UPS or FedEx Ground and the shipping is cheaper. If you train yourself to not be so concerned about where your package is every second of the day, then it'll be fine (I admit, I use to check these things once every couple of hours back when online shopping was new to me). Oh, and another plus: USPS ships on Saturdays!

One thing you have to note, especially with eBay sellers, is that priority mail is NOT the cheapest shipping method with confirmation. Even if the seller says they ship priority, they might be skimping on things and just send first class with delivery confirmation. First class mail really does take FOREVER. And of course, some sellers take forever to ship.

When it comes to international shipping, things aren't that simple. Most methods of shipping do not have any insurance, because USPS obviously has no control after the package leaves the US (remember, USPS is controlled by the US government--they can't really have any significant presence in other counries). There are some insured carriers, like EMS express, which will deal with the other local carriers, but you really need to know what you're doing before shipping internationally. FedEx and UPS, of course, have international shipping plans that are fast and have great tracking and insurance, but they're very, very expensive (last time I had to ship via that method, it was something like $25 or $35 for a ~1 lb package). You get what you pay for.

I've had not problems with their delivery service, but the tracking sucks all to high heaven. Dont they realize how fustrating it is for customers to be put through such incompetence. It would be better if they didn't offer the service at all then to offer it and not deliver. my package is also a ebay purchase. this also affects the sender, maybe you should post all the comments on ebay.

Those criticizing the USPS: give me a break! Sure it would be great for them to offer genuine tracking, but if it increases the rate as high as FedEx, UPS, DHL, then it's a big problem for most people. For most people and small businesses -- except large businesses who mail hundreds/thousands of items a day -- USPS is the best way to mail things because it's much less expensive than the other carriers! The only people who get a deal with these other carriers are large businesses. So, those who think the USPS should "die" should think about what it would do to small businesses!

I've mailed thousands of items using USPS, and they've only lost something twice (and I suspect that the item was stolen after delivery or the buyer was lying).

For price, the USPS has no competition (anywhere in the world). The US is lucky to have it. It's such a great deal that some Canadians come to the US to mail items back to Canada.

I had a package crammed in between two doors for two days, three days before USPS told me it was there. I wouldn't have even known if it wasn't for some kid trying to sell me candy via my front door.

MPS - You're missing the point entirely.

If USPS wants to offer cheaper shipping without tracking that's not a problem. It is a problem when they offer it, you pay thinking you're going to get it, and then they don't deliver (bad pun I know). It's completely dishonest.

Saying you get what you pay for is crap. There are plenty of services and products I pay less for which do exactly what they claim to just as well, or reasonably well compared to more expensive alternatives. Then there are those whether costly or not who just plain lie to you about their product. This is USPS. The fact that they are cheaper does not grant them forgiveness in my book.

If it's money they are trying to save for themselves and their customers with the current "we'll let you eventually know that it was delivered system" they need to call it what it is. It certainly is NOT tracking.

Joe Mama: USPS claims Registered Mail can be tracked from location to location: http://bit.ly/3zyjz2. Also, people have reported that delivery confirmation is useless as well. They simply shouldn't offer these services if they can't deliver (pun intended) on them. Delivery confirmation 2 weeks after delivery is not helpful.

    Hi.

I am extremely frustrated! I Express Mailed a large envelope size from Dillon Colorado to Northglenn Colorado, signed the waiver to leave it in the MAIL BOX. The recipient never got the envelope, research showed the delivery person has someone (a babysitter) sign for it, and thae envelope disappears!

One employeee has been helpful in trying to recover it, but the carelessness of the delivery person is appalling.

    A. They should have just left the envelope in the mail box
    B. The signature was not even required
    C. The "babysitter" should NEVER have signed

Everything else in this country is going to crap, why not the postal service?

    MY MISTAKE TO TRUST ANYONE!
