i've recently purchased an ebay item where the seller used the usps priority mail to ship it...and kindly enough sent me the tracking information for it...

so naturally i go to the usps.com site to get tracking information...what a lie.  the tracking information only appears to get updated once the package is delivered...so much for the usps to provide up-to-date tracking...i wonder why it is even offered...

It's more for the sender than the receiver.
7/2/2004 5:17 AM | # re: usps 'tracking'
My feelings exactly. I purchase quite a lot from suppliers that use UPS and it's frustrating to only see the tracking when it's on my doorstep. FedEx's tracking is lightyears ahead.

My son is on leave from Afghanistan and on 12/22 I sent him a Priority Mail. Today is 12/29 and it still hasn't gotten to him. This is shear stupidity on the Post Office's part. They really do suck.yA=

This service really sucks, I have been waiting for my package for over two weeks and still yet have not received it. A new system should be taken in consideration!!!!

I agree you get the package before they list any kind of info, but yet everyone else seems to have their shit together!
7/20/2005 8:44 AM | # re: usps 'tracking'
Hey Tim, maybe what you don't seem to realize is that Priority Mail doesn't have tracking, unless you purchase it separatly... I think it's registered, certified, or return recepit. Now Express Mail does have tracking built in to the purchase of the express mail postage. Look into it.

Still waiting in Hawaii it's beena little while and what I found out is even the private courriers can't next day air anything to Hawaii, it's 2nd day services that actually is what they can only supply our shipments.

I have used this tracking system before, and it was great. Now is sucks.
What's the deal with the Postal Service?
3/9/2006 8:09 PM | # re: usps 'tracking'
I love the UPS and FedEX tracking. But USPS sucks. I've gotten two of my packages today and I've checked their site and it still says that they've just recieved the package from the sender and that they'll update the information, if available. Then at the last several minutes I got an email (I subscribed to the track & confirm by email) that it got delivered to my house. Stupid. And the first email I got from this was the starting point as to where my package is currently located. It doesn't update me on where it was heading next, either. USPS is a freaking joke and they should really just... die. I'm happy with FedEx/UPS. I'm sure Airborne is good too but I never used them before. As long as the tracking is good I'm happy with it. I'm upset that most of the stuff I ordered used USPS. They should just rot and die.

comparing USPS in any way - tracking, reliability, or customer service - to UPS or FedEx is like comparing a Yugo to a Lexus.

You get what you pay for.

still sucks
6/7/2008 7:15 AM | # re: usps 'tracking'
what's the deal with this postal service? tracking has no use if you can't see what has happened to your post. why do they even bother placing a tracking number if they do not update daily? up to this time, the same message still appears since day 1. that was the day the person shipped the item.
6/9/2008 11:11 AM | # re: usps 'tracking'
I live in Canada and IT'S BEEN OVER FIVE WEEKS NOW since the seller in Massachusetts sent my keyboard and guess what?(you guessed right I am livid right now). A sampler I bought from St. Paul Minnesota was sent to me in two packages; the first one got here in a week(!) and now two weeks after getting that one the second one is still nowhere to be seen. I am poor and just dropped my whole tax return on my dream music gear and now it looks like they went and threw anything with my name on it in the dumpster(except for part one of the St. Paul order which as luck would have it had all the cables to run it in the second box!) Yes I learned my lesson and yes USPS SHOULD DIE OF CANCER OF THE FACE!
6/9/2008 4:25 PM | # re: usps 'tracking'
I had a big blow out at my local usps located in wykagyl, new rochelle. I shipped a watch back to china that cost me $125.00, the clerk never asked me if I wanted insurance or tracking she took my package threw it into a box on the floor and charged me so I paid and left.. What Im not a usps expert I figured she was doing her job so I took it at face value. Well, the box never got to China, still missing some 3 months later til this day which is 6/9/08. So, basicall I lost my watch and money. With no tracking or insurance I was livid because I wasn't offered any by the clerk.OF COURSE the clerk said she offered it (LIAR). So I got nothing, no way to trace, track or figure out what happened.. So what would stop a USPS employee from just taking it home? I don't know? I raised HELL, but still I got nothing!

I don't understand, if I paid like $7.00 to ship this watch to China why doesn't that count for anything? Why is it that the USPS charges extra to be able to say to you 'we gaurantee your addressee will get this item" which is their job right? You give them a package, you pay and aren't they supposed to get your item to the other end where the person is waiting for it? Why do I have to pay extra for that?

I HATE THE USPS!! Also it sure seems coincidental that whenever I ship anything overseas without insurance it NEVER gets there!!! Wow!!! I guess the message is that if you don't pay the extra money you are giving your item away as a gift to some stranger.. Remember when you pay insurance the post office puts a stamp indicating there is insurance on the package.. but doesn't this make it very easy for a theif to know which packages are vulnerable to theft? In other words a worker can say 'OH LOOK NO INSURANCE STAMP, I CAN STEAL THIS WITHOUT AN INVESTIGATION" How about making every package look the same whether or not it's insured? HUH USPS??

6/11/2008 8:04 AM | # re: usps 'tracking'
while USPS charge you around thirty dollars to send a document
overseas in express mail and promise you tracking the mail, it seems not
to be deligent about the tracking process. About two weeks ago, I sent a package overseas in express mail, USPS tracking information only shows the record of initial shipment of the package from JFK airport, no other updated record is shown!

It's now 2008; &, nothing has changed! The USPS "Tracking System", DOESN'T!
6/13/2008 1:55 AM | # re: usps 'tracking'

I ordered two packages online from the Czech Republic, on Sunday. The vendor mailed them on Tuesday, and gave me a USPS tracking number. Now it is Friday morning, and USPS tracking still says that they don't have my packages yet. The vendor promises 4 days to deliver (after sending) to the U.S., so it should be here today, still, tracking at USPS says the post office is still waiting for it. Their tracking SUCKS. I know they have it, because the Czech Republic mail service, ironicly, was able to confirm that they delivered it to USPS days ago! So its official, we have worse than a third world mail service.

I have used them twice. Never again! I would sooner have my parcel thrown in a dumster, so as to avoid the weeks and weeks of wondering if and when it will arrive. Why anyone offers this as an option on ebay is beyond me. What a way to pixx off a customer!
6/20/2008 8:46 PM | # re: usps 'tracking'
get this..i order an item on ebay, the guy wen to drop it off, they told him it wasnt properly wrapped...he took it home and 7 days later he sends it out, gives me a tracking number and ofcourse it only states that they got it on this day. No info as to where the f it is. I purchased the item on the 5th of june and here i am wondering where the *ell my package is. I hate the mail system.
6/24/2008 9:30 AM | # re: usps 'tracking'
I ordered a package from Hong Kong. I knew I should have gone with UPS or FedEx. The tracking info said the package was in Jamaica New York. That was on the 18th of June. It's the 24th and I haven't gotten it yet. I live in Philadelphia! I monkey on a scooter could get my package to me from New York in less than five days. USPS needs a revamp.
6/30/2008 4:46 AM | # re: usps 'tracking'
If you go to www.packagemapping.com you can track the package as well as ups or fed ex and even see a map of where your package is

The tracking system is terrible
Been tracking for 4 days and acording to usps package has gone nowhere
7/11/2008 5:43 PM | # re: usps 'tracking'
I've had a lot of experience with priority mail. Basically, you get what you pay for. Priority mail, for lighter shipments, is usually much cheaper than ups or fedex, and almost always comes within 2-3 days, depending on the distance (there's a strange formula here--if you're close enough to the shipping origin they won't ship by air and it'll take longer than if it were further away) There's only one package that took too long, and the local post office managed to misplace the package. The tracking is indeed worse than UPS, but packages come in usually a third the time than UPS or FedEx Ground and the shipping is cheaper. If you train yourself to not be so concerned about where your package is every second of the day, then it'll be fine (I admit, I use to check these things once every couple of hours back when online shopping was new to me). Oh, and another plus: USPS ships on Saturdays!

One thing you have to note, especially with eBay sellers, is that priority mail is NOT the cheapest shipping method with confirmation. Even if the seller says they ship priority, they might be skimping on things and just send first class with delivery confirmation. First class mail really does take FOREVER. And of course, some sellers take forever to ship.

When it comes to international shipping, things aren't that simple. Most methods of shipping do not have any insurance, because USPS obviously has no control after the package leaves the US (remember, USPS is controlled by the US government--they can't really have any significant presence in other counries). There are some insured carriers, like EMS express, which will deal with the other local carriers, but you really need to know what you're doing before shipping internationally. FedEx and UPS, of course, have international shipping plans that are fast and have great tracking and insurance, but they're very, very expensive (last time I had to ship via that method, it was something like $25 or $35 for a ~1 lb package). You get what you pay for.

I happenend onto this site by accident while checking for usps updates to my package tracking information in vain for the third day. I've had not problems with their delivery service, but the tracking sucks all to high heaven. Dont they realize how fustrating it is for customers to be put through such incompetence. It would be better if they didn't offer the service at all then to offer it and not deliver. my package is also a ebay purchase. this also affects the sender, maybe you should post all the comments on ebay.
8/30/2008 9:01 AM | # re: usps 'tracking'
Those criticizing the USPS: give me a break! Sure it would be great for them to offer genuine tracking, but if it increases the rate as high as FedEx, UPS, DHL, then it's a big problem for most people. For most people and small businesses -- except large businesses who mail hundreds/thousands of items a day -- USPS is the best way to mail things because it's much less expensive than the other carriers! The only people who get a deal with these other carriers are large businesses. So, those who think the USPS should "die" should think about what it would do to small businesses!

I've mailed thousands of items using USPS, and they've only lost something twice (and I suspect that the item was stolen after delivery or the buyer was lying).

For price, the USPS has no competition (anywhere in the world). The US is lucky to have it. It's such a great deal that some Canadians come to the US to mail items back to Canada.

In reference to RUTH above- I know the post was awhile ago but if you all think that if you mail a package to Afghanistan on the 22 of the month (december no doubt) that it should have somehow make it there by the 29th....YOU ARE DELUSIONAL. First of all we are talking 7 days...during the PEAK of Christmas rush.....What do you expect????? SUPERMAN is delivering your package?

9/16/2008 1:04 PM | # re: usps 'tracking'
I had a package crammed in between two doors for two days, three days before USPS told me it was there. I wouldn't have even known if it wasn't for some kid trying to sell me candy via my front door.

MPS - You're missing the point entirely.

If USPS wants to offer cheaper shipping without tracking that's not a problem. It is a problem when they offer it, you pay thinking you're going to get it, and then they don't deliver (bad pun I know). It's completely dishonest.

Saying you get what you pay for is crap. There are plenty of services and products I pay less for which do exactly what they claim to just as well, or reasonably well compared to more expensive alternatives. Then there are those whether costly or not who just plain lie to you about their product. This is USPS. The fact that they are cheaper does not grant them forgiveness in my book.

If it's money they are trying to save for themselves and their customers with the current "we'll let you eventually know that it was delivered system" they need to call it what it is. It certainly is NOT tracking.

9/17/2008 12:14 PM | # re: usps 'tracking'
Hey! Here's a good one for ya...

I get this letter in the mail that says (paraphrased) "We could not locate your package that you tracked so here is a check for $15.00."

What??? I never recall tracking anything, nor insuring it for $15.00.

Someone said to me, don't argue with them "Take it and run!"

I was selling an item for $15.00 on Ebay, but can't remember anyone complaining they didn't get, nor do I remember any tracking.

Unbelievable, 2nd lost package of the year with a worthless USPS tracking number. As a buyer on ebay & Amazon, I am going to start insisting on commercial carriers. As a seller, I will absolutely not use them.
10/1/2008 4:00 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Considering that USPS doesn't have "Tracking" but instead has "Delivery Confirmation" it actually works quite well. When the item gets delivered you get a confirmation. If all you knuckleheads knew what you were talking about there would be nothing to whine about!
10/1/2008 4:09 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Joe Mama: USPS claims Registered Mail can be tracked from location to location: http://bit.ly/3zyjz2. Also, people have reported that delivery confirmation is useless as well. They simply shouldn't offer these services if they can't deliver (pun intended) on them. Delivery confirmation 2 weeks after delivery is not helpful.

10/3/2008 10:43 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard

I am extremely frustrated! I Express Mailed a large envelope size from Dillon Colorado to Northglenn Colorado, signed the waiver to leave it in the MAIL BOX. The recipient never got the envelope, research showed the delivery person has someone (a babysitter) sign for it, and thae envelope disappears!

One employeee has been helpful in trying to recover it, but the carelessness of the delivery person is appalling.

A. They should have just left the envelope in the mail box
B. The signature was not even required
C. The "babysitter" should NEVER have signed

Everything else in this country is going to crap, why not the postal service?

I have tried to find a package that was sent from a seller on ebay. I have the tracking number but it is worthless because there is no info for it. What a waist of time! USPS will not even let me get through to customer service!I hate this service! I don't know if I have been ripped off by the seller or not. What a crop of crapp! I know one thing, if I ever purchase anything else, the seller need not use usps or they can stick it where the sun don't shine! ADVISE TO EVERYBODY-USE FED-EX, THEY ARE WORTH YOUR TIME!

10/20/2008 7:35 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Here is my tracking info:

Processed, October 15, 2008, 10:36 am, JAMAICA, NY 11405
Foreign International Dispatch, October 12, 2008, 4:36 pm, HONG KONG AIR MAIL CENTRE, HONG KONG
Foreign Acceptance, October 10, 2008, 5:43 pm, HONG KONG

Well, today is october 20, and guess what? No package yet? What does this mean? does this mean it is in customs? usually if there is a customs hold up it actually says " Inbound, being processed by customs" then when released it says "Outbound, released from customs", then it will show the package has left the facility.

this says nothing about customs. why would it be taking so long then?

Dude, they really suck. I sent an overnight package on time last night and the person I sent it to still hasn't received it. It was supposed to be there today before 3. And it's before 6 o'clock and they're already closed when I try to call customer service. The place I shipped it to is literally two hours away driving distance and it still hasn't left the place I dropped it off at according to the horrendous USPS "tracking"...it irritates me because I sent it overnight for a reason and I sent it early so it would get there today and yet, nothing. The tracking is killing me and the customer service is killing me. A bunch of lame disgruntled employees answered the phone earlier today when I called at 4 (the package was set to arrive before 3 PM). All they told me was that if it doesn't ship today, it'll ship tomorrow. Yea, no shit! What kind of information is that? I want to know where it is and EXACTLY when it will get there. What the hell is wrong with these people? They don't even know where their trucks are and what's being sent where? I could've just driven down and handed the package over myself. What a waste of $30 bucks.

I hold here in my hand a reciept and a "delivery confirmation number". It's been 10 days since I sent the package. USPStracking and confirmation service says thereis no record of this. This item wasn't even sent outside the continental US. Well like most things as of lately, we pay more get less with less and less human intervention.

I sent a package two weeks ago. A few days after I sent it, the tracking said that it arrived in the correct town but it could not be delivered and is being returned. I still haven't gotten it back. I'm hoping that it got delivered and they messed up the tracking. I don't want to pay another $15 to resend it. That same week I also sent two DVDs to two different locations (TX and PA from MN). One has been delivered and the other one says that the tracking info still hasn't been received. It astonishes me that they can't scan the barcode. I paid extra for this service but it hasn't been worth it.

I wish i had gone to this site before i sent some impotant material through ups certified mail.Their tracking system is as sloppy as the people working in the post offices. There is no way of knowing wheter your package left the place you mailed out from.ALL THE UPS SERVICES NEED SHUTTING DOWN
12/3/2008 11:10 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Their tracking says "Information, if available, is updated every evening."
It is never available. The reason why there are no in-transit updates is because they have no idea where your package is! CLUELESS!
12/4/2008 1:31 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I believed USPS express mail international when they said 3-5 working days with tracking updates every evening and paid $52 for posting a parcel from California to the UK. It is now 4 working days later and the item has read left country ICS Los Angeles since day 2. It is a very stressful process not knowing why an international flight is taking more than 2 days? In the past it does show when it has arrived in the recipient country and when it enters and leaves customs but now I am in limbo as I do not understand why the package is still on a flight?

People yes the tracking sucks but the post deliveries more peieces and to more places then any else.. Yes package do get lost or may take longer to get to destation... If a piece you mail cost slot insure it. If u don't like the lines at the post office or the service us usps.com it's cheaper than the post by 10% and u get free tracking on package.. Give usps a chance 2009 will be a better and diffrent year for the post office

AGREE 100% USPS Tracking is a total joke. You get the item before it shows in their system. It should be called Delivery Confirmation because is sure as hell doesn't track the progress of your mail.

Yeah it's pretty much true. Right now I'm tracking my Sennheiser headphones I bought. Did I say I was tracking them? I meant I was waiting on them because "There is no record of this item." If you want reliable tracking, use UPS/Fedex.
12/9/2008 4:55 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Yes the fact USPS tracking sucks. Updated tracking information is given every time the shipment is scanned. So in other words every time the mail truck stops to unload and reload on another way of transfer the entire shipment is scanned and then the tracking information is updated. If you ship something from Minnesota to Florida the shipment could make a few stops to get reloaded on another truck in that processes it will be scanned and you would see that when you type that number in tracking. But yeah Media Mail is slow as hell. It's got my customers all fired up.

Perhaps we should hand our health care over to the g'ment. I mean, the U.S. government is practically a monument to efficiency, results, and stewardship!

So, maybe Uncle Samuel can't figure oun how to track a box from A to B, or manage Social Security, or balance a checkbook...there's plenty of things he does do well. Things like educate our children, and.....you know.....things and stuff.

USPS has the worse tracking system on the planet.
Worthless piece of shit, what is the point of a tracking number when it doesnt let you TRACK your package???
The tracking # is worthless, when you get an update a day AFTER you recieved the package.

Interesting topic,
Word of advice about sending "Overnight/Express" to Service Members...

The only Overnight/Express is from the P.O.D. , sorry point of departure (your post office) to P.O.A. point of arrival, which will typically be a distro center in the States, before it gets sent
Once the Military redieves the mail/packages ( again reminder this is in the States ) your Post-Office guarentee is over, as it has in fact been delivered.

Once the packages reach Iraq/Afghanastan they have to be sorted
( By U.S. Service members ) and then delivered either by Plane or Wheeled convoy.

My wife was under this misconception the 1st couple packages she sent me when the war started and it took 2-3 months to get to me.....Needless to say I was happy the "homemade cookies" were in a ziplock bag, as they could not spoil everything else at this point.
12/10/2008 1:37 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I think it is interesting the people believe that they should have accurate tracking information when searching for delivery confirmation numbers. You see in most cases (not all) that number you have is a delivery confirmation which does nothing more than state that this item was delivered somewhere in the zip code you designated. I personally think that is a joke because most zip codes have hundreds if not thousands of addresses. Now if you have an actual tracking number and it doesn't work then that is just wrong.

I too bought something on Ebay they used Priority Mail to send it from CN to TX three days later the tracking number still shows no record. USPS sux, It is the governhment that is why. We should use FeDex or UPS when possible. Dis I say they sux well they do.

I make a purchase on e-bay on Dec 1st. Standard shipping, stupid I thought, as I cannot receive any tracking info other than when it was shipped out on Dec.2. Glad I didn't waste any money on priority mail as it seems that sucks also! I feel sorry for the people selling their items on E-Bay. It makes you think twice about another purchase from them although they are not at fault, maybe they could get somewhere with USPS. LOL! I tried calling USPS and that was a big Joke. No human to speak with, suprised??? I have had it will the usps system and will definetly have purchases shipped through USP OR FED EX. At least they keep tracking up to date. Maybe I'll get lucky and get this package by Christmas when it is needed! Good Luck to everyone else and Happy Holidays to all and to usps. you guys suck outloud, there should be a law against this shit. They should be paying us for all the stress!!!
12/12/2008 12:00 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
We should do away with the USPS, they have their finger up their butt and don't give a shit because they are goverment employees. The goverment screws up everything all the time. If everybody would quit using them there would be nothing to complain about.

My package was shipped on Nov. 27th from Eastern Europe. Then it left
Argentina on Dec. 2nd. I have tried several times to "track" my package using the so called tracking number on the USPS website. Every time the result has been, "There is no record of this item". I spent $20.00 for
airmail...the only option from this internet merchant. I am still waiting for my package. SUCKS????????????? Oh, yeah!!!!!!!!
12/13/2008 1:27 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I mailed a Christmas pkg. last week and it was supposed to have arrived on the 10th. Here it is the 13th and it hasn't arrived and they won't tell me where it is but said it could be another week. They shouldn't have told me that it would arrive by the 10th.
12/14/2008 11:25 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I agree. I ordered a package by air mail, and i don't know where the hell it's at! I don't expect to see an update until like a week after I get my package. This is rediculous.

I tried to track the package I sent to my son overseas and it could not give me tracking on that package. What good is the tracking number if it can not provide information? I hope UPS will soon deliver to APO addressess

12/20/2008 10:45 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
My questions is why does UPS turnover packages to the USPS instead of delivering them themselves? I ordered a package that was shipped UPS on Dec 12th. On Dec the 16th it was turned over to the USPS Bulk Mail center in the city which I live in. AS of today Dec 20th I have yet to receive it. My sister sent me a package on Monday straight USPS and I received it Dec 19th. This does'nt make any sense at all.
12/23/2008 1:45 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Considering how many things they have to ship, you'd think it'd be difficult, but FedEx and UPS are able to do it. Really stupid.
12/23/2008 10:11 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I no longer purchase from sellers or sites that ship via Priority Mail. Especially sites that offer Priority Mail as some enhanced "free" shipping option.

Too many times these sellers and sites hide out of stock items and slow shipping practices behind the opportuity to print a tracking number that isn't updated until the package arrives at its destination. Never ever again will I even shop when I see Priority Mail prominently offered. It's a sure sign to me that I'm about to get screwed.
12/27/2008 9:58 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I ordered an Ebay item and was given a USPS tracking #, going to the U.S postal site it told me that the item was shipped Dec 24/08 and arrived in Canada Customs Dec 27/08. From there I have to wait because the tracking # ends at the border. I now know that it arrived in Canada and will await our snail mail for delivery.
12/27/2008 11:18 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I ship from my home. On December 18, the mailman/lady picked up my priority mail package from my apartment building in NY. The package was going to Fairfax VA and contained a number of gifts for my son, grandson and daughter-in-law. Here we are, 10 days later and the package has not been received by them. The USPS tracking is a joke, because all it tells me on USPS.com is that the post office was notified that a package was being shipped. For the first time ever, and what with a lot of other stuff is going on around me, I forgot to insure the package. I don't give a damn about that, but I DO give a damn that my 7 year old grandson received ZERO from Mrs. Santa Claus this year.

United States Postal SERVICE? What service? It's an abomination. Next year - Fedex.

There's no other way to put it. USPS tracking and as whole sucks! I don't think the federal employee dumbasses that run USPS even have a tracking system. They lost a $700.00 item that was shipped from Great Britain! That never happened with UPS! We need to spread the word!!!!!! Boycott USPS Parcel Service!!!!!!! I have been waiting for a package that was shipped via USPS from michigan to Alberta Canada. Sent on a supposedly 2 day delivery. Tracking system can't find the tracking number and the package still has not arrived and it was shipped on Dec. 8. This is absolutely ridiculous. There should be some way that these problems can be fixed or prevented.
1/2/2009 5:03 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
They do suck! I ordered somethings online on December 22nd, 2008 costing me almost $100. The site where I ordered from said it would be shipped using USPS when they sent me a Order Confirmation, I got a Shipment Confirmation on the 25th, they said it had been shipped out on the 24th. I tried tracking my items on USPS.com with my label number & all it said was it was processed & shipped out of their facility. I checked again & it said it arrived at a Unit in my city on December 29, 2008. On the 30th of December I thought it was going to be finally mailed to me. I was wrong, I waited until today, January 2nd, 2009 & I never got it yet, I checked again on USPS.com & it hasn't changed it said it arrived at a unit in my city. I already talked to one of the USPS units in my town, now I have 2 more to go to and ask because the first one said they didn't have anything for me. What I wanna know is how come my package has been at one of there units ever since December 29th & they haven't delivered it to me yet! I've had things delivered to me by USPS also after I ordered the first thing & even got it before that! It's funny how the most expensive thing I order online hasn't been delivered to me yet because it's supposedly still "at their unit".
1/3/2009 9:01 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard

1/7/2009 9:55 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard

Every time I order from Amazon they split my order and some items ship UPS and I have them in a couple days with full tracking status so I know where my package is at all times, then there is USPS... sigh! USPS is a joke and there tracking system is worthless! I get items from UPS days before USPS states that my item has left there shipping facility. It usually takes me 8-10 days or more to get an item shipped via USPS, I would be embarrassed to be the Post Master with this track record.

1/7/2009 10:59 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I had a similar experience, ordering something online and being assured it would be here in time for Xmas, only to have the USPS fail me. I complained to the online company and they said that their claim of pre-xmas delivery was based on assurances from ... the USPS. Nothing really new here.

So I told them that if I considered ordering from them again it would only be if they did not ship my order USPS. Right now, I am awaiting 3 different orders from Amazon and all of them have been shipped USPS. Did something suddenly changed that USPS is a more attractive shipping option? I am going to specify from here on in when ordering on line that I will not approve charges unless they have alternate shipping to that of USPS.

I am sorry to take sure a hard line on a gov't institution but when you combine the lack of real tracking...(the USPS site calls it tracking!) and the very slow delivery that makes buying something online into a "hold your breath" experience, I have to go somewhere else.

I posted a letter from the UK last post on 29th December,2008 using Airsure service. It arrived ICS USPS New York on 30th December as stated lol : Inbound International Arrival

Your item arrived in the United States in ISC NEW YORK NY(USPS) at 9:36 PM on December 30, 2008. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

As of today the letter has NOT been received by the recipient in Florida. I paid a fair amount so this would get there within 3-5 days..well it did get to USA quick (within 24 hours)..once in the USA though it is down to the USPS. I even called USPS yesterday and was informed they only have the same information as I have as per the track and confirm system..What a joke !!!!!!!

To those comparing Priority Mail and First Class Parcel service -- don't waste your time because they are the same thing -- it's just a matter of how much the item weighs. Sending something 13 ounces or less via Priority Mail is a complete waste of money.

I agree that the USPS "tracking" system is a complete joke. There are scanners all over the system (most letter carriers have them) but the data never seems to get uploaded to the web.
1/15/2009 7:03 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I sent this pckg yesterday as express shipping to the next state over in PA and its the folling day and it still says "there is no record of this item" It makes me freaking nervous cuz i sent a $200 instinct phone in the mail to someone who bought it on EBay and I dont want to lose out on the money. Its bad enough that EBAY and PAYPAL( more crooks that they are, which happened to be owned by each other) each take a cut of the stuff, but Paypal will not release funds to you until it is confirmed that the pck was delivered otherwise I have to rely solely on the honesty of people(the buyer) USPS SUCKS BAD
1/15/2009 9:30 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
USPS is a joke. Not only does the tracking not work - but out here in PA we have other issues. Without fail when I go to the post office and get a next day envelope under the "Guaranteed next day delivery" sign, package up my mail and take it to the counter, I am told that this location does not have overnight delivery, but instead it will take 2-3 days. The only time I do not encounter that is when I am mailing something to a bordering state. I wonder why its offered and why the guarantee delivery when they don't even offer the service to a lot of locations at least from PA. Another thing is, they re-did the routes recently and everything is being delayed. I paid to have something shipped 2-3 days, and here we are, 7 days later and still no package. Tracking is a joke so I don't even try anymore. Its insane.. and very frustrating.
1/15/2009 9:38 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
ARRGGGHH! why are packages scanned BEFORE delivery???? I have had several experiences where the online tracking says item arrived but have yet to see the package. The seller gets thier money and I get nothing, and I have no case because the online tracking says DELIVERED!

And today I tracked a package it says "item arrived at unit" but my postman hasn't even arrived yet???? WOW!
1/15/2009 11:12 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Usps is retarded, i bought a Movado watch for my wife on dec 15th 2008. And today its been a month since the "item" was received by them. I´ve called numbers from the customs to Canada post to see if they know what this is happening, and they have no idea. The seller is clueless and making a claim today. I wanted to give this to my wife as a gift for xmas, which was still 2 weeks away from the day i bought it and it was a total failure, i felt so bad...
Since that day i´ve got things that come from Hong kong and they arrive in matter of 5 days, and i only paid like 2 dollars for the mailing for those items. While the Movado comes from Florida and it cost me somewhere around 20$...
I just regret that i never used usps before and I didnt know it was such a crappy system.

It's been ten days and a package I shipped from Los Angeles to Seattle is not yet here. I make this drive in two days, so I figured the package would take four or five business days. here we are on day 10, I have no box and the tracking tells me that the package was accepted in Los Angeles 10 days ago. Thanks USPS.

im so scared that my package will not arrive :(
i ordered my dream dvd collection of sailor moon which cost me almost $400.
transaction and everything went smoothly, but usps is really starting to upset me.
they told me that it was sent with priority mail, which takes 2 days to be delivered.
since i live in hawaii, i figured it take maybe three at most.
if it was sent & accepted on wednesday then the package should come on friday if im correct.
idk, im just so nervous & i pray that i will get my package because alas, it was my dream collection.
btw, i agree. the tracking sucks ass T_T
1/16/2009 12:11 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard

I've purchased many things on ebay and every once in a while the seller sends my purchase by usps with tracking, and NEVER have they had reliable information. This is what caused me to do a google search "usps tracking sucks" which led me to this site. Why doesn't USPS just be honest and get rid of it.

Oh, no. I thought I would be getting my package shipped fast, but reading all these posts, I'm now scared that it will never come. USPS has been updating the product delivery very frequently... until the last post which was, "The product was processed and left our Sacramento, CA, 95834 facility on January 18, 2009". Today is January, 20, and I'm hoping it will come today, if not... well... it's going to take forever. I hope not though. :)

""Your item was accepted at 9:55 AM on January 20, 2009 in STURGIS, SD 57785. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later. ""

So uhh, WHERE IS MY PACKAGE!. I can’t believe the vendor used USPS. I just spent $700 and was told I would receive the item in 2 business days... It is now January 28, 2009. The above statement is the most current tracking info. I can’t afford to misplace a $700 item. It was in SD!! As of 8 days ago. I’m in MN! WTF. Calling customer service is no help. They tell me it should arrive any day now...WHAT! This was 2 day delivery it’s been 8. I am livid right now. If USPS were a man I would kick him in the nuts! Oh BTW the shipment was sent from Colorado so only 1000 miles away...
1/28/2009 2:45 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I was told my package would arrive yesterday or today. So naturally, I go to the USPS tracking site, which the sender had sent me (with the tracking number). I click on the site from the e-mail, just to see if my package is arriving today. I cant even connect to there tracking site, with a message that says I keep getting cut off. After a few tries, I finally access the tracking number, and it says that it has left my local post office. Thats funny, the mail man didnt bring any packages TODAY!! This is totally ridiculous. I tried clicking on the details, however that led me to another dead connection as well. This is the UNITED STATES postal service, they should get there shit together!! Why does a postal office, powered by our own government, have the laziest and most unhelpful services? I really wish I could burn USPS RIGHT NOW!!!
1/31/2009 9:51 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Well, since this seems to be the place to tell these sorts of stories...

I have a little toy video player for the kid of a friend of mine lost somewhere in the mail right now. It was coming from Hong Kong. According to the USPS tracking, it arrived safely in Jamaica, NY Friday before last. After that, on Saturday, it went to Charlotte, NC. Since this is close-ish, I had hoped it would be in my mail box on Monday or Tuesday. What a silly person I was for thinking that.

I even signed up for alerts and stopped tracking (Thursday or so).

So...After a week of waiting for this package from Hong Kong to make the momentous journey from the interior of the state to it's far western edge, I decided to track it "one more time." (I had not gotten an alert...don't know why they offer them.)

It's gone back to Jamaica, New York and has a departure scan. I suspect it's going to Hong Kong again. It would be nice if it had *ever* once listed the anticipated destination or indicated that there was something awry. The company I ordered from had confirmed my address and obviously some one could read the label well enough to get the item to the correct state. Just that one little step left...

2/18/2009 3:40 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I believe what most people here don't realize is that USPS doesn't even offer tracing. The service you are talking about is USPS Delivery Confirmation, which is exactly what the name implies. The "tracking number" usually only tells you whether or not the package has been delivered or not. Also, where eBay is concerned, often sellers on eBay take their sweet time in getting packages sent out, and often use services such as USPS Parcel Post which is cheaper but can take over a week to be delivered.

I agree USPS
2/28/2009 4:59 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Along with tracking goes route. What path is it taking? DHL picks up my purchased item in Thailand and drops it off in Hong Kong. USPS is a limited partner of DHL for small parcels so a USPS tracking number is assigned there. If I had a clear view of all of the US west coast I would have seen my parcel aboard the plane enter the country and disappear on its way to the east coast. It gets processed and sent out from USPS Jamaica, NY nine days ago, sent back to the west coast to Oregon. And now while writing this I see a post office truck come into the apartment complex and park in my parking spot 3285 in front of apartment 3283. She goes to 3283, gets no answer and gets back into her truck with the parcel in hand. I'm thinking, well I guess it was wasn't for me as I see her stop in front of our letter boxes for a moment and takes off. I wonder what are the chances? So I walk out and open my box and sure as hell there's the 'Sorry, we missed you' note. We're clearly marked beside our doors but it makes no difference! It's like watching the theatre of the absurd.

3/13/2009 10:46 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Well, if you read the usps site there is no claim for a tracking system, it is delivery confimation only. The carrier scans it at the door and is updated once they sinc the handheld, if they don;t sinc it it doesn't happen.

Also they used to track things when this feature first was avaialable, which slowed the mail down more than now. The decision was made not to raise prices and not ack it the whole trip due to man power. Reason items cost more for other carriers. i have been shipping from ebay for many years and only lost one snet priority mail package. I have had more ups come up missing, yes it is insured but still a hassle. I also have never not had a priority package not arrive, might be more than 3 days, might have tire tracks, lol, but they always arrived. Parcel post is another issue, many people use it and say a couple of days, when it is 10 usually. Pay more moeny and quit complaing if you don't like usps, option is yours to choose, also only buy from those who use ups/fedex and pay the premium for the better service.
3/23/2009 9:55 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
i agree they loose every thing and then when they do not they damage it and then say it is not there fault
i have newspapers that get torn all the time and they that i need to get a bigger slot /
it is regualtion size because i had to buy it at the store instead of building one that was to be bigger in the first place,
that is what the post office made me do.
and i say they need not to shove 3 inches of mail into an 2 1/2 inch slot
and need to make 2 drops.
they say in onawa iowa that they only are required to make one drop and not 2
that if we do not like it we can get a post office box.

ya they are going to try to make any story to make you spend money that you do not need to spend to tiring to finance there malfunctioning system.

I even had mail stole for month and the post office said that there was no one stealing the mail.
I tole them in onawa iowa many times that is was being stole and still they did not believe me.

over 6 month later they found out
i was never apologized to
i lost my life insurance because this mail carer had stole my mail

i was with out life insurance for over 2 years because of this till i asked my
insruance company what my payment was one day and say said that they canceled me.
i told them what happened and it took at least 6 months to get it back

if i would have died during that time my wife would have been without the insurance.

i found out later that it was the post master was retiring from the post office and did not want the black mark.
to where he would have never got his retirement

i say money is gread and the California company that wanted to start nation wide
postal service come on all the people out here are wanting you
instead of the bureaucrat in the Washington dc

all government in the united states needs working on and i have no respect in them

Boy, I'm just finding out how right you all are. I'm trying to find out the name and address of items I've been getting in the mail and then charging my account for items I did not order. USPS and their "tracking number" is a crock.
What ever happened to consumer protection? It looks as though they're interested in the thieves and to hell with the victims.

OMG I'm so glad I found this site. I've had something that has been "sitting" in NY for over a week now and even calling USPS they don't know anything. USPS BLOWS and I will never use them for anything personally. The person that said they should die of cancer of the face wasn't too far off. DO NOT USE USPS if you can help it. They completely suck and are totally worthless!
4/16/2009 7:18 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I would like to comment on Joe Moma comment fron 100108. Yes, USPS has delivery confirmation but it isn't worth nothing if it is not updated. I ship everday using USPS Priority Mail with delivery confirmation and some items with signature confirmation. Majority of my shipments deliver in 2-3 business days in the US. The problem is when you pay for delivery confirmation and the carrier does not take the time to scan the package as delivered or delivers it and do not get the signature. If there is a problem with scanning an item, then the numbers should be keyed in. I have paid for signature confirmation many times. The package gets delivered but it never shows delivered. If it wasn't for honest buyers I would be at a lost.
4/16/2009 7:20 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I contacted the delivering post offices and the clerks stated that the packages had not arrived the delivery station yet. When I go to the post office to get a refund, the supervisor states that he can't prove that it was delivered because it is not showing delivered. I advised him the package was delivered in 2 days and my customers stated they received it. If it does not show delivered by now it is not going to. I told him this has happened with several of my packages. He asked me if I could bring in documentation. He stated that once a package arrives the delivery location it is suppose to be scanned and when it delivers it is suppose to be scanned to show delivered also. When I spoke to a customer service rep at the 8OO number, one rep said it should only show when the package has delivered. I called back and spoke to another rep, and she said the post office is suppose to scan every package at the pickup location and when it is delivered. When I spoke to employees at the post office, they stated that is not true. There is no way they can scan every package. Evidentally, there is a break down in training and communication with the Postal Service. Nobody can give you the same answer. There needs to be extensive training. Although the postal service handles more mail and is cheaper it is no excuse. If customers are paying for delivery confirmation and signature confirmation that is what we should get. I understand it is not a perfect world but I should be able to get my money back without a problem if it does not show. I will never ship First Class Mail. It is just more room for error. The longer your item is out there, the more chances it will get lost or stolen. Also, never ship a high value item with USPS and insure it. In most cases this is a red flag to be stolen especially when it is marked at a very high value. In my opinion, I would use Fedex as an alternative. Recently, I mailed a package to Greece by USPS Priority Mail. I created the label online and dropped it off at the Post Office. I don't see any tracking. It only shows my label was created online. Today is the 15th day and it still shows the same thing. The rep at the 800 customer service number put in an inquiry with Greece for status but stated they have 23 days to respond. This is not going to do me any good. I hope the buyer is honest and that it has been delivered. I ship internationally all the time via USPS Priority Mail and all of the packages normally arrive the delivering countries in 10 days or sooner. I only had one package that shipped USPS Priority Mail to Canada and it did not show any scans but delivered. All the packages I have shipped internationally via USPS Priority Mail have showed a scan out of the country and when it reached the destination country except one. If you do use USPS and you create your labels online, print a scan form and have your carrier scan the form or have it scanned at the post office. When you create a label online and drop it off at the counter, it is only going to show that the label was created online if nobody ever scans it. I was told again by a rep at the 800 number that USPS Priority International Mail does not provide tracking and that all scans are a courtesy. She stated only Express Mail and Global Express Guaranteed provide tracking. I guess I have been lucky with international shipments because they always show scans when they are exported, arrive destinaton country and in most cases delivered.

and NEVER USE A POSTAL MONEY ORDER! I bought some motherboards....the items were sent COD, just junk motherboards from old first generation pentiums thrown in a box. The USPS guarantees nothing. I lost $125 on a purchase and was told "you accepted the package". I was told I had to take it up with the company I purchased the stuff from. (of course, the number is bogus) Postal money order only protects the person receiving the cash, not the buyer.
5/4/2009 7:02 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Ups not usps tracks at every scan.
USPS tells you your package has arrived a day after you've picked it up,(useless)

Also I sent a 100$ rebate in and there equipment chewed it up.Enough was left to see my ret ad.A note said sorry I hope it was not anything of value.

Anyome ready now for Government Healthcare?
5/4/2009 5:28 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
If the USPS has this much trouble delivering packages with an arcane tracking system, I suspect the original programmers/operators/support left the company and the remaining employees continue to use a system with no internals! If you find tracking information sporadic and incorrect, it might be that someone is entering it manually because no one knows the system to automate it.
5/6/2009 6:50 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I read this in a earlier post. I used PackageMapping.com and it really works and is free to the public. I'm so frustrated with USPS that I will never buy anything from a seller that uses it.
5/6/2009 3:28 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Last week i have placed an order on e-bay i had only one option for shipping via USPS priority international mail.
I taught so that's not expensive:)
I,m from Holland and i have shipped a lot of stuff from the United States to Holland always with UPS or Fed-ex and never had problems.
of course is UPS or DHL Fed-ex exc. not cheap now i know why!
I even didn’t knew about your national postal service, i,m sorry about that.
Well think i have learned very much last couple of days about USPS.
My shipment was posted on 29 April 2009 from Detroit to The Netherlands.
I received an e-mail what says this:
Electronic Shipping Info Received
The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on April 29, 2009 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

This is now for 7 days on there website no updates at all.
I went on google and typed USPS sucks, so i came on this forum.
What can i say about USPS i think here is a lot written about them.
No Tracking at all, what a joke never seen such a stupid service like this.

The Dutch National and International postal service TNT have much better track and trace service like this from UPS, Fed-ex or DHL.
For me the first and the last time shipping with USPS.
I think that company’s like USPS have no rights of existing this days with there misleading service, or better to say no service at all and it doesn’t matter is government or privet company.

Yeah, cheap and good is impossible! What do you expect?
5/8/2009 6:43 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
USPS tracking is very good example of how a govt. agency runs things......now we are facing this kind of wonderful service in all aspects of life, banking , health care, auto industry, internet. I guess if everything sucks hard , we won't notice our demise.
5/11/2009 3:39 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I have an item I am waiting for that was mailed from Kharkov, Ukraine April 24, 2009. Tracking shows it was delivered to NYC December 3, 2007.

Problem is, they may be psychic as to it being sent 18 months in the future, but I live in San Diego.

5/15/2009 7:38 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
For the few people that are praising the USPS for their cheap rates, have you compared rates lately? Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but in my experience with most packages, priority mail is only slightly cheaper than UPS or Fedex if the package takes up less than 1 cu.ft. of space. And the tracking sucks and you get $0 insurance unless you pay extra. If the package is any larger, it usually costs far more than UPS or Fedex. What's the point?

For those that are saying its cheaper to ship USPS, have you done any comparison shopping lately?
5/19/2009 9:10 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Wow, everything on here seems to be right where I'm at. I can't believe that the USPS can not enforce their employees to do a 1/4 second scan of a box as it is loaded. I used to work at UPS and if you were not doing your scans for some reason....you got talked too a couple of times and written up....then you got dismissed. I really don't think that firing a few employees is gonna matter as from what I understand gov. jobs usually pay pretty well and have good benefits should be pretty easy to fill the spot with someone "TRAINABLE" like a monkey. monkeys can eat alot of bananas on a full time salary. sigh....ranting.....
5/22/2009 2:12 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
For those that are expecting international shipment via express mail: Per my conversation with a post office rep, express mail from foreign country, once arrived in the US, will be delivered by USPS via the normal first-class service, NOT priority or express. My experience? Took a pkg less than 72 hrs to go from Spain to US (NYC), then 13 days from NYC to Dallas...enough said? Also, USPS tracking is a joke
5/22/2009 2:26 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
to put it bluntly, I ordered some items online. not only did they come separately when they were to be delivered at the same time, the box the items was delivered in was torn open and wet. plus, the tracker failed to update. USPS is a joke.
5/24/2009 8:17 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
It's horrible for the sender as well! It says the package is delivered in Germany when actually they don't have it! Now what? Has anyone ever tried to find a package through Deutsche Post? I'd love to know what to do next. USPS says it's delivered and out of their hands.
5/25/2009 11:34 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
my item was shipped from Germany. It was arrived in ISC NEWYORK on May 13. and my package is still sitting in NY. USPS SUCKS. and I called the customer services and send email. they are saying same thing over and over again that I have to call 1-800-222-1811.
5/28/2009 12:39 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
You did not buy Tracking, or Tracing. You bought Delivery Confirmation; ie "tell me AFTER it was delivered".
"Tracking" is Domestic Express Mail and Registered Mail.
Stop whining and blaming everyone else. Read the instructions.

It's great if you want to confirm that the package you are holding in your hand has been deliverd. Otherwise - useless. They should get rid of it. All it does it frustrate people with non-information.
6/5/2009 3:43 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Hey JJ,
I didn't "buy" anything from them. The shipper gives me a link to something called "Track and Confirm". Can you see how that might be a little misleading? They should also stop telling me to "check back later" as if they are going to have something to tell me. I've never gotten any useful information from them. What they should say is "Keep checking the mailbox".

6/30/2009 8:56 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
USPS does suck.. I'm expecting some equipment that I'll use for work ( I work in a government building, a BIG government building ) and according to their "tracking" they tried to deliver on Monday at 2:30 PM.. THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEBODY AVAILABLE TO TAKE PACKAGES ! THIS IS A F*CKN GOVERNMENT BUILDING, YOU DONT LEAVE A "SORRY, MISSED YOU" NOTE. So, I call up USPS, they give me the number of the USPS Post office where the package is being held, call 'em up, give them the Label/Recipt Number, my phone number and they tell me that they'll call me when they confirm that the package is indeed in THAT Post Office.. almost 4 hours later, nothing. I call the Post Office and nobody picks up. This is f*kn ridiculous
6/30/2009 7:33 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Oh.... my... GOD.. I wasted my entire lunch hour dealing with the situation.. I went to the post office, talked to the person in charge of that particular post office and the where about of my package are just unknown. Yet again I'm told that they'll call me before 5 to give me any sort of update.. I dont the call. NOW its 10:30PM and I just check the tracking bullcrap system they have and it says the they delivered the package at 10:30AM of today !!!!!!! well how come none of the employees that work with the incoming mail at the building dont have the package ?????? Mind you I called at 1PM and they didnt have anything for me, and they are very quick to call me when I have a package waiting for me.. Now I just have to wait 'till tomorrow and see if indeed the package was "delivered" as the status says.

I Hate USPS! I bought an item from Ebay, A t-mobile g1 and payed $130.00 for it. It's been seven days no sign of it, no tracking number that works. The last I heard of it was when the seller sent me a delivery confirmation in email that the item has been shipped. I'm BIG TIME WORRIED. I hope it gets here. IT'S GOING ONLY FROM HOLIDAY, FLORIDA TO ATLANTA, GEORGIA! THAT'S IT! NO MORE USPS. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME IT HAS HAPPENED.

I sent my tax forms to the State of California on April 15th. Last week I got a notice saying I hadn't paid my taxes. When I checked into it, I discovered that my forms got sent to and signed for by the IRS in Fresno, California instead - even though my certified mail clearly listed the item to be sent to Sacramento, California. Worst, the IRS CASHED my tax payment check and stamped over the top of the payee with "US TREASURY". Weirdly, I did get a letter from my post office admitting the error in delivery. Lets see if the State of California will wave my late fees based on that letter (don't hold your breath).
7/8/2009 5:20 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
We should pay our bill online instead of using their services. However, the suckest part is our government is supporting this stupid service, even if we don't use it, they still gonna increase the shipping rate and keep those lazy bass sitting there for the rest of their life. Our economic is hitting the ground and so many people are losing their job, but those who work with no brain... still remaining in there place and wasting our money by providing a horriable service

After AIG and WaMu... I wish USPS will be the next one to disappear in the world. I am not the first person hoping for that and I am not alone here ^v^

The new expensive computer was stolen over USPS. And they "can't help" because no insurance. I lost computer and also need return money to buyer. Over delivery confirmation says Delivery status information will be provided (when?, after a year, or two?).
I Hate USPS!
7/24/2009 7:14 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I have to agree that USPS sucks and - pretty soon - they will be out of business. E-mail, FedEx and - maybe UPS - will do it!

Tracking is a joke and one has to pay extra to get it - ridiculous! And when "tracking" is provided, it is sooo un-reliable that it is useless.

As a remark for somebody venting their anger on USPS, who got a parcel from Europe, Czech Republic and was mentioning "third world country"... All European countries have decent tracking Postal Service systems, that can provide in a timely manner info from the pick-up all the way till the mailing goes through the US Customs and is handed to USPS. After that, there is a black hole. Nobody knows where is the package and when it will be delivered. So - which one is the "3-rd world country" - CR or US?!? Americans, wake up!

Well, I ordered a netbook from eBay and unfortunately I only has USPS as my shipping option. I didn't know it sucked so bad. I chose express service expecting it to reach within a week as I was shipping from US to Nepal.

Its been 16 days precisely and I can only see International Dispatch on its tracking page. It sucks. I hate it.

They are a group of [email protected]#king morons who can't even update a tracking code. Why do they even give this facility if they just can't provide it properly. I pray and hope that my netbook is safe and I get it within a few more days.

I brot something online and it is being shiped thru USPS from US to UAE(Middle EAST) Dubai.
However its been more than a month now and my shipment has not arrived, i tried all that i could usps does not reply, and i contacted local postal service in UAE they confirmed that it has not arrived in UAE.

USPS TRULY DOES SUCK!!!!!i would have rather paid a 100$ or even a 1000$ even when the price of the product i brot is 35$ and rather goten it shipped by FEDEX / TNT / DHL or something :(

This is my sole opinion, and no ones responsible for this other than me!

Think of the USPS as third world country run by dictator's. They have no reason to improve. Funny thing is now there is a hard push to turn health care over to this type of invironment in the US. Go figure.
8/24/2009 6:35 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
People should stop saying to get Express Mail because it has "proper" tracking. I sent a package 4 days ago Express Mail, which was supposed to be overnight. Not only has it not gotten there, the idiotic "tracking" has only one event -- that is was accepted at the post office I took it to. So 4 days into this, the only thing USPS knows is that I took the package to them at my local post office.

When you think about, why does the USPS even exist as it does. Over 98% of my mail goes right into the recycle bin as their subsidized rates allow marketing companies to level whole forests to send tons of paper crap that 99.999999% of the people will never read. I do all my bill paying online. I never send letters. And if I have something to deliver, I use a delivery service. My mistake here was assuming the USPS is a delivery service. Silly me!!! I'll never use USPS for anything again. What a total farse of a business. I hope they are disbanded and every worthless person there loses their job. It's nothing less than they deserve for providing such horrible service to their customers. If they weren't a govenment sanctioned monopoly, they would have ceased to exist long ago.

"LOL @ You cry babies..,go outside and get some exercise. It will get there when it gets there. The world does not revolve around you and your package."

J, you're missing the point. We paid USPS money to provide a service. If I pay extra to have a package arrive in 2-3 days then that's exactly when it should arrive.
9/3/2009 3:53 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I'm surprised by all of this, because with all of my endeavors with the USPS, I've never had one single problem. Anything I shipped whether it be Express or Priority got there within the timeframe it said (I've sold Phila. Eagles tickets overnight to eBay purchasers without problem) so again all of these problems surprise me. Right now, I have a package being shipped from Hong Kong, said it was accepted on September 3rd, at 1:48pm. I'm assuming this is Hong Kong local time, as it is 6:48am on the 3rd here right now. Give or take customs, I would assume it would get here sometime next week (Fed-Ex took forever with my MacBook Pro that was shipped out of Shanghai, I think about two weeks.)

Another thing that people aren't seeming to grasp is this - the USPS doesn't specialize in packages like FedEx and UPS do. That's why their services and tracking are much more reliable. USPS offers shipping as an extra service and a cheaper alternative however more prone to mistakes because of the volume of mail and other parcels being processed. If the USPS were to be abolished, that would mean either UPS or FedEx would have to pick up the slack. Once that happens, see if they're as reliable as they are now. They wouldn't be. USPS handles multiple mail items for almost every house in the US, as well as the packages being sent, whereas FedEx and UPS only handle parcels, not necessarily to every house, but by item count, I'm sure it's not even close to the amount of "items" the USPS handles per day.

Anyway, so yeah. Maybe I've just had decent luck with them, who knows. I'll have to see how this package being sent to me goes along. It was sent Registered Mail, too... Never had that before.

Well did you ever notice how many blacks work in the post office? What do you expect. I mailed an important letter (check) 3 weeks ago. Destination was 30 miles away, same state. gave the letter to a black postal worker who pissed off that the door was not locked and that i got into the post office 30 seconds before they locked the door. As I left the post office i knew the look of that nigger that the check would not get to its intended destination. Sure enough i was correct and I ended up driving the a new check to the destination. This is also what happens to our packages. You can blame agenda in hiring postal workers that seem to favor blacks/hispanics and other non-europeans. Another triumph of multiculturalism.

How can the postal service compete when they cannot deliver the package.
A package was deposit in Texas to be sent to the UAE Dubai
Deposit on the 17th of October it is now the 26th of October, where is the package tracking only shows it was deposited with USPS, even though they say track this we will send updates, I have not seen any updates, nor the package
it took 3 days using DHL, it took 4 days using Fedex, but you could track where it goes and expect delivery time.
This UPSP sucks as the papers enclosed are vital, insurance is not the things replacing the papers is vital.

Give it time ( they won't be around very much longer. all the big wiggs are sucking all the money out of it. I did some research and found out by the year 2011 that a standard size letter is going to cost $2.27 to Mail

I am an ebay power seller and ship over 200 packages a month with USPS fist class delivery confirmation with Paypal shipping. I never had a missing package when I lived in two previous cities, but now for some reason about ten percent of my merchandise is going missing. Often it shows up with the package opened and the contents missing, and I know it's not the customer because the mail handlers will also put a signed sticker on it that says "delivered unsealed" i have complained and complained, i get ignored, or they tell me that without insurance there's nothing they can do. That's what really burns me about USPS, what other business in the usa could get away with saying "either buy this insurance protection or we're not responsible for what WE do with your package!"
it's a racket and these employees are stealing my merchandise and getting away with it!

Well...I have two packages both from the UK shipping to me in Virginia and I have always got my packages in 7 or 8 days. Well the one package was shipped Airsure which is supposed to take 4 business days and it has been almost 2 weeks. The tracking info on USPS.com says it is still sitting in NYC. I am sick of this and i am not using USPS anymore if they cant get me my parcel from NY to VA in a couple of days when it only takes me 4 hours to drive this is a travesty to our mailing system.

11/27/2009 8:08 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I have bought 1 used blackberry shipped from 1 of the seller.
He has provided me the tracking no and shipped the same on 4-November from the base location and it was dispatched for International Dispatch on 4th November.
Almost 23 days has passed and the last status is this only.
How much time does it take and can somebody guide for further course of action?
11/28/2009 6:40 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
You know WHY they suck? Because we failed to check on their service BEFORE using it. Here I am waiting for my small package since nov 19th and not knowing what to do..We have to write and complain to amazon, estarland, ebay and any other selle and tell them we're not gonna buy ANYTHING from them while they insist on USPS. What a shame!
11/30/2009 7:05 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
all of you are retarded..usps priority with delivery confirmation(what you all are calling tracking) is just that..delivery confirmation. Its used to the sender to see if it got to its destination ok. Its NOT a day by tracking like it with ups or fedex. Please understand this..and you will see that USPS tracking doesn't suck..because you arent talking about their tracking. You are complaining about the delivery confirmation not showing tracking.
12/3/2009 5:38 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
The USPS does have a tracking, and it is great, but the confirmation delivery is pointless because you do not get your package when you should. You are stuck with worrying, i believe that they should offer tracking and confirmation together. It should not be a choice; it would help out alot. But i totally understand everyone on here. I mean my package was shipped Nov.18 and here it is Dec. 4. I called in about it, and they told me to wait 1-2 business days for results, so hopefully tomorrow i will know what is going on.

Considering the USA has to borrow billions from China to wage wars, that protect Israel, (the richest country on earth) the Post Office is a thing of the past, going out.. hang it up, it is the pits of the pits, I would rather ship my stuff UPS, or FEDEX.. at least you know it will get there sooner or later.

Just like anything else the Federal Government tries to do.. failure.
They hire East Indians that rip off taxpayers for this "Tracking Service" garbage software.. and then wonder why their "Tracking Service" fails... get a clue..
12/9/2009 10:16 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I have lost 3 ebay purchases being shipped to me thanks USPS. I avoid ebay now unless if the seller uses ups or fed ex same as with other online shopping. I think usps is stealing packages with this many lost packages there are no excuses. I have never had one single issue with ups/fed ex with something being lost. Also their tracking system is a joke in 2009 still. One time I checked tracking at 2am it said delivered on a package that never got here way before mail even went out lol. So people from usps are thieves and cannot be trusted.
12/11/2009 10:07 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I should have read this forum before decided to use USPS! I didn't expect "US postal service" have such poor web site+tracking system! My only hope would be my parcel will arrive without lost, the duration of delivery is no longer the main concern......(Sigh!) A ebay bidder from Hong Kong.

I ordered a coat on e-bay from germany which arrived on 11/18/2009. Still no sign that I am going to receive the package. I have just given up hope. Goodbye 200 dollars. I e-mailed USPS to ask how to start an investigation, but after 4 days no reply (website says answer within 2,5 days). When I call, they say look at the tracking info on the site. I asked if I could go directly to ISC NY. But they said that was not possible. WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LOONNNNGGGG!!!! Never ever ever will I let things be sent through USPS. The worst service ever. It is just frustrating. I have been reading about this issue and see posts that go back years. And still the service is so bad. Why can't they improve their logistics?

Did anyone have an incoming international package that went through ISC New York have to wait for more than one month to get it delivered? I just want to know if it will arrive within a month or two. The coat I ordered is gonna be out of fashion by the time it arrives.

I made a purchase off of E-bay on Dec 18. I contacted the post office today. They told me they received it Dec. 19 and it should take 2- 9 business days excluding holidays and weekends, and that it should be here by Jan 14. I am no mathematical wizard, but those numbers don't add up!
NEVER use USPS. An Employee at my Local Post Office said they would not spend the money on a satelite tracking system like UPS.
Always go UPS or Federal express.
They are the BEST in the shipping Industry.

The Westmont, Illinois post office was just remodeled and 6 stations are in there. There is always 1 or 2 people behind the counter and 25 people in line. I have been waiting for a check, for more than a thousan dollars. My most recent mail was tossed in my front yard, like trash.

When I first called, no one answered, so I went down to the local office. They told me that no one answers the phone – our tax dollars not at work. They just let it ring and ring.

After some effort,, they gave me a phone number that I could call.

Someone was at that number, but she did not seem to care.

I think if it was her money, she may have been more concerned.

Does the post office only hire incompetent people who have no clue about the importance of mail?

It is true that most of the mail we receive is junk, but some of it matters.

I don’t know what else to say.

Should I loose tens of thousands of dollars to these thoughtless people?

1/13/2010 7:16 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I've been a Power Seller on eBay for over 10 years. By that, I mean that I ship hundreds of packages a week. I ship almost exclusively with the USPS, and I've had a hard time getting buyers to understand that tracking only comes with USPS Express Mail, not with Priority Mail. I pay for delivery confirmation to make sure my buyers receive their packages, and prevent claims of non-receipt. Although I have a disclaimer in my listings making buyers aware that they'll need to opt and pay for Express Mail to get tracking, I still get requests for the tracking number on first class and priority mailings. It's not so difficult to understand.
1/16/2010 1:31 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I had a package that arrived in the NY ISC Customs, on January 9th. I paid for Express Mail so I could track my package, with a delivery deadline of January 15th. My mail has been stuck in customs for 7 days now. I cannot get any information from customs. They acknowledge that it is in their office, but they dont know where. Now, how can my mail arrive in your office with a tracking number, and you cant tell me where the hell it is, or whats going on with it. I agree with the person prior who got a empty package from Australia, and now has to file a theft report. I believe that items are stolen while in customs, and not being held. I understand that customs will check every international package that arrives for our safety. However, when a package is so called "held", I should be able to know why its being held, in a timely matter.

And William?? Do us all a favor, and keep your stupid ass, and your racist remarks off this site, and in the SECURITY and CONVENIENCE of your own home. I hate when people like you talk about other races...behind closed doors, and on the internet. First, it shows that your mind is still in the 40's and 50's. Secondly, it shows you are some old person, too old to be talking shit in 2010, because the same people and races you belittled back in those days, are now the same people your ass is scared of now. Thats why you talk on the internet. Thats why you talk behind closed doors. Other races laugh at people like you. America has come soooo far from where you are at.
1/18/2010 9:50 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
To those who have documentation of multiple items being stolen--have you tried contacting your local TV news? If you have the open boxes with the "delivered unsealed" stamps it would make a nice visual. Local TV loves--or, well, used to love--airheaded "consumer" stories like that, and it might embarrass the PO a bit.

You *could* try further up the chain, like your local Representative (Congress Critter) but then if you aren't a big donor, they might not care. (But let one of them lose a few items to "uninsured mail" and they might change their tune.

Documenting the whole clusterf*** on Youtube might also help (hey, they got AOL that way). I mean, ship an effing honeypot. It's how you get 419 scammers and hackers, right? Send something that phones home and see where it ends up. Film everything. Stand back and watch those sparks catch fire.

Personally, I think a lot of mail is going missing due to indifference under the current regime of hellish budget cuts. I had the USPS lose an oversized envelope with a check in it... I wanted to blame the demoralized local peeps at the PO but it could have gone missing anywhere. Had to put in a stop check, at $30, so I gladly paid for Certified/Return Receipt ($6) this time, much cheaper. However, nobody tried to cash the check... the dang thing just never arrived. You hear about carriers hiding mail b/c they can't deliver it all and you suspect you might just be the latest victim.

PS: I know someone who mailed a debt payment check to the IRS that got "lost in the mail". Very stressful, especially with the way IRS calculates penalties and interest. She finally wised up and had her credit union pay it off and she pays them monthly when her paychecks come in. No more foul-ups. So that sucks. But seriously, first class mail is waaaaaay cheap for what you (hopefully, most of the time) get.

3/8/2010 11:33 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I have bought maybe 70 parcels from the us, and I live in a very isolated country Australia it is a lot further away geographically than most countries so you can only imagine the frustration I can experience. I do think usps can be good if you get express international mail only, the other just priority mail can be unreliable. The tracking might work and then might not? god knows why. I have found when sellers charge a lot it can still not be sent express and when they post something if they take a week to send it stuffs the whole process up and you get your parcel sometimes 3 or 4 weeks after you have paid for it which is really annoying and if I had of known it would take that long I would not have bought it. Any time I have it sent express international which is 40 PLUS I get it tracked and it takes a week. So you should all stop complaining because imagine living in Australia!!!!

The USPS Delivery Conf. without signature receipt by receiver is nothing more than a scam by the post office..Do not waste your money on this..I recently had an item mailed to my PO box..The morons put it in the worn box and said it was deivered and that was that..Luckly an honest person returned it to PO..Had they not I would have been out the package. Since the DC says delivered on it, and its your word agains USPS the credit card company and insurance will not pay for it..Bottom line is NEVER ship anything thur USPS without a signature by receiver unless its something you just don,t care to loose..

There is NO true tracking with first class or priority mail. The service offered is called delivery confirmation. That is, you are paying $.70 or $.80 cents to C O N F I R M your DELIVERY. Hence the name " Delivery Confirmation" . If a postal clerk offers complete tracking for an item, that is with Express Mail only. AND our Postal Service has not received one cent of tax dollars since 1979 or 1983(something like that) ... In any event it has been at least 25 years since they received any of my or your tax money. Oh, one exception was when it was in fashion to send anthrax through the mail. Congress then spent some money to make sure THEIR mail was clear of any anthrax.

One month since delivery and still no word! Sigh... All they can tell me is that it " may " still be in customs. If I did my job as bad as they do I'd be fired. Well... " they" told me it could be in customs for up to 45 days. I guess I'll see in 2 weeks.
5/22/2010 2:53 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I will agree that USPS tracking is inferior to that of UPS or FedEx. I typically don't seen an update online or receive e-mail notification (if I signed up for it) until ~4 hours after the package was delivered. UPS and FedEx updates and notifications are almost immediate.

One thing I will say is that USPS is WAY cheaper for smaller/lighter items. And if we're talking UPS Ground, USPS is usually faster as I've rarely received a UPS ground package in less than 7 calendar days. Sure, you can pay for 1-3 day service, but man will it cost you. I usually receive FedEx packages a couple of days BEFORE scheduled delivery, but I believe they still cost more than USPS.

I should also note that vendors get cheaper rates with shippers such as UPS or FedEx if they sign up for an account and especially if they ship a lot. In other words, if you ship something from the UPS store (with your own packaging), it will cost you a lot more than it would cost a company with a UPS account. Do you REALLY think it costs them $10 to ship something like a 2-oz cell phone battery? Nice of them to not pass the discount onto the customer.

With USPS, I'm not aware of any substantial discounts offered to high-volume shippers aside from those who get permits or do something with "presort" (although other discounts very well might exist), so I guess it's harder for companies to BS you on the rates. Maybe that's why a lot of companies use UPS or FedEx over USPS, because they can't easily hide/pick up that extra $5 or so on each shipment.

Now don't get me wrong, the USPS is not without it's faults; I've had a recent Priority Mail package ripped open, one of the items somehow fell out, then the whole thing showed up on my doorstep in saran wrap (no sh-t!) Filed a case with USPS and never heard anything from their 'lost and found'. The seller didn't have insurance so USPS "didn't have any further responsibility". Then the seller said she was going to send me a check to cover the missing item, but I never received it and she ignored my inquires as to where it was...so yeah, she just ended up being a c*nt overall. Unless there's some kind of mysterious black hole between South Carolina and Illinois, which interferes with all of our correspondence and deliveries?

Anyway, I also had an item delivered by UPS that was gone when I went outside to look for it. Notified UPS and the seller, and I received a replacement with no hassle. The seller ended up dealing with UPS so I don't know how it turned out, but I'm sure it was easy enough; since they not only volunteered to deal with UPS, but also sent me a replacement before UPS paid them.

Personally, I usually go with what's cheapest, but let the buyer beware :) ...and that's my story!
6/3/2010 11:39 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
The U.S. Postal Service does NOT secure or track incoming registered mail from other countries. In the last year, two registered letters I was expecting, one from Canada and the other from U.K., never arrived; they were tracked as far as their arrival in the country in New York, but after that, no record. When I asked the clerk at my P.O. what was going on, she told me that USPS does not keep registered letters from abroad in a separate, secure pouch - they DUMP THEM IN THE REGULAR MAIL! If a slip is left in your box, it's because the clerk noticed the registered label on the letter. This is not right - there are regulations on handling registered mail that all UPU member countries must adhere to. If you get valuables from overseas, use private express companies like Fedex.

Ever wonder where all the "lost" packages go? Well USPS keeps them all and auctions them off and keeps the money. Ive had many packages mysteriously never get delivered and im sure they all get auctioned off in their USPS auction.

I am a Seller on eBay.I take all of my packages to the Post office myself instead of having them picked up.
The USPS has lost 5, yes 5 of my packages since the first of the year, I mean are they eating them? or do they have a theif? of what tha?. I live in a podunk town in Central Texas that CANNOT sem to get their chit together. On every single item, the only infor they have with the DElivery Confirmation , is that I dropped the package off to be mailed. I purchase a Delivery Confirmation for each one no matter how small. That costs an extra $.75 to ship every single package. The only way the DC is FREE is if you ship Priority. I can barely afford to ship Parcel Post because the shipping rates are so astronomical.
I have written to the USPS and I have a claim number for each package along with the DC. I have asked for a refund on them all , and after the 3rd package I demanded that they also pay for the items. The response I got was no, the USPS does not reimburse for lost items. Can you believe that?
What is really really bad about this scenerio, is that being a Seller on eBat=y we are graded by ALL of our Buyers. eBay demands that you keep a 100% Seller Dashboard rating, or you do not sell on eBay. That is why Sellers have been dropping off ike flies since the new policies were implemented this April. That Seller Dashboard can kick you in the ASS even a year later which is what I am dealing with now. Chit, or bad grades from 1 year ago.
Since we do get graded by the Buyer, and one of the items is shipping, where do you think my Seller Dashboard stands now. It aint good!!! Is it my fault? no way. I got their packages to the Post Office in a timely manner, but the Buyer does not grade you on when it shows you got it to the post office, they grade on how long it took them to receive it. Now, and what else can I do.?
USPS SUCKS Big Green Donkey Dicks!!!They have ruined my eBay business!!
I want to be compensated for this loss.
WHat ddo you think about that story?
Please feel free to email me with comments or suggestions.
Thanks for letting me vent!!

I have just come across this site as I have a package which looks like it's been in mid flight for 3 days.

I really can't get over how extreme your viewpoints are! So your package is late - I know what - let's hope everyone who works for USPS gets a terminal disease.

Really, how sick and rude are you people? Is this really how normal American people behave when something does not go their way?

Some of us just looked on here to get some information from others in a similar sitation - we didn't expect to have to wade though this rubbish. Did your parents not teach any of you decent, polite behaviour?

yah i agree with everyone, i ordered a shirt through USPS and i go to track it, and it tells me the order is not available, its been a week and a half, i contacted the company that i bought the package and said it seems it has been lost. is that because THEY can see the status of my shipment but not me?
and did all you guys eventually receive your package? or did you never get it
7/9/2010 1:07 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
You all have me worried now too. I just ordered something on ebay from Hong Kong that has tracking information saying it has "foreign acceptance" and has left Hong Kong on July 6. It's the 9th and I'm not even going to bother checking the "tracking" info anymore after reading all of these nightmare stories. Obviously, I don't expect this to arrive for about another week using USPS. I guess I'm too used to using UPS, where things actually arrive before their scheduled delivery dates. Fedex is also great about hitting their delivery dates. Both of these premium carriers have nice, accurate tracking systems in place. I really see little value in the USPS (personally) since I can pay all bills online, and ship with other carriers. All they really deliver to me is junk mail, and I can do with less of that. Perhaps it's time for them to close their doors and fade into the sunset.
7/15/2010 10:25 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
yep, just like you all said... usps sucks hard! It's now the 15th of July, I don't have my package, and my requests for update beyond the "foreign acceptance" have gone unanswered. I'm going to take the advice of some on this thread and start dealing only with sellers who DON'T use USPS to ship. I really wish I would have read this thread first.

I guess I got lucky because I have received packages all the way on the east coast in 2 days(I live in California), both times via USPS. And I don't see any problem with the tracking. It tells me when it's in transit, when it arrives at the processing facility and when the package is out for delivery. I do not pay extra for this and got it when I ordered First Class, no extra cost to me.
7/22/2010 4:48 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
This is why the USPS is in debt. They hire morons who cant even do a simple task like scan a package. The USPS is sort of a social program for those who cant find employment anywhere else. Its a ship of fools. Ive switched to UPS for ground shipments. At least they can keep simple track of a package unlike the mindless employees of the USPS.

10/17/2010 8:18 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
there tracking is a joke. it tells you electronic label received, shipped. processed sort facility (zip code)

that is it. ups and fedex tell you at location x - delivery day x. now sometimes the ups/fedex drivers show up at the end of the day but at least you get a heads up as to what day....

usps is easy to send stuff out as if it fits in the box print and label and it goes. it is also cheaper on lightweight items w/o having a certain large monthly qutoa.
10/21/2010 2:22 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard

The reason why USPS still exists is because they are cheaper than the private courier companies. That's the only reason. But hey you get what you pay for. Cheaper shipping price means lower quality service and sometimes unreliable service.

Yeah the tracking that tells you item was shipped, then nothing, then only update once item was delivered is the dumbmest thing ever...but that's what you get if you don't pay extra dough for their more fancier services such as registered mail and express mail or whatever.

The good thing is USPS actually does not...does not depend on tax dollars to exist. It is supported by its own income from stamps and other stuff people mail. I don't mind sellers using USPS option in Ebay as a way to lower shipping cost to the buyer as long as the item is covered by Ebay Buyer Protection or Paypal Protection.

If you don't risk the inconvenience of having to do a dispute resolution in Ebay/Paypal you can always request an Ebay seller who is offering only USPS shipping that they send an item via UPS or FedEx and just offer to pay the extra cost.

12/21/2010 5:32 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
And now something that's actually USEFUL to the conversation; I too have seen where it says "electronic shipping info received" then nothing for a few days then all of the sudden it's delivered (usually with cheaper services like first class or parcel post). I think the reason they call it "delivery confirmation" is that you get "confirmation" when the item is "delivered" (jen already said this above). I don't think they actually have a guarantee or whatever like UPS that they will track the items at specific points. So if you happen to get some tracking along the way at various sorting facilities or whatever, then consider it a bonus. Well like it or not I don't think they're going anywhere, because even if they were, the government would be more than happy to take more of your tax money and bail them out...

If you send a package USPS Priority it isn't tracking that you get with it for the extra charge, it is "Delivery Confirmation" This is one of their many gray areas as it depends on the Post Office you drop it off to whether they take the time to update the computer. My local Post Office never updates so I get constant emails from customers asking why I printed their label but didn't drop it off for shipping. Usually the packages are already under way by two days at this point but the customer is still unhappy. I don't believe the Post Office really has real tracking at all. It is optional on their part. As far as delivery times, they are all useless estimates. Parcel Post is estimated 9-12 days but what they don't tell you unless you ask is that it can take up to 30 days and not considered lost until 30 days. Packages being returned have no time limit at all but additional costs. I once received a returned package 6 months later, that's right, six months with a nice surcharge. Damage to packages are on the rise with both USPS and UPS from my experience. We gave up on Fed-ex as we had an 80% damage rate and the problem is not the way we package the products. We've been repeatedly told that we over protect package but still, too much damage. We had a motor casting that was bent badly in shipping that our engineer calculated a need of over 350 lbs. of force to damage. It was estimated that it would need to be dropped from a three story building to endure this kind of damage.

I once watched two UPS workers unloading a truck at a state hub from an area I was not supposed to be in and for good reason so non-UPS could see the contest of how far they could throw UPS packages. I hear at least two contents of these packages breaking like the should of broken glass. To some of these people, delivering you package is nothing more than a game.

Its so stupid like lol, I just purchased something from the US and of course the cheapest was USPS, so i did it, then after i do it i ready about all this crap about it lol, so I try tracking it and I can't, it says zip code but what if i have a postal code?! what idiots!
1/17/2011 11:24 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
The USPS is like a mail black hole that requires more and more government money for less and less service. I mailed a package with all the expensive addons...signature required, insured, priority, "super special we won't lose it" delivery confirmation, signature required, tracking" yada yada yada.

1/25/2011 2:31 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
USPS can shove it where it don't shine, the same thing been waiting on 2 packages that left on Dec. 31 2010 and all the usps can tell me is that is hasn't even reached the united states
1/31/2011 11:26 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
For the second straight time that I have used certified mail there is no record of delivery over a week later for an in state delivery. The expected delivery date was 1/22 but only the acceptance of the item on 1/20 is recorded. The first time this happened my letter was indeed delivered, but I had no proof of it being delivered, which was the whole point of sending it certified mail (legal action).

This renders certified mail an absolutely useless service.

-well once upon the time i get a "tracking nr" from USPS and i knew they Suck...but now i know they suck hard
-a Tracking nr is provided for the receiver part to follow the progress of the goods/package that they payed for, and also the service of posting and TRACKING was payed-so in the end you pay extra for a service you don't get...even Homer Simpson understands that
2/3/2011 12:17 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
USPS is an awesome reason for why the Government cant be trusted to run anything but the Military and the Police. Although they are doing a damn good job of screwing that up too. I say we liquidate USPS. turn it all over to private companies. I can track my package with UPS almost the instant after I mail it. AND GUESS WHAT? UPS delivers MORE packages to MORE places than USPS. They have a bigger, tougher workload and they do it faster and more efficiently, albeit at a slightly higher price. Which actually isnt higher because we, the taxpayer, pay for USPS to be cheap by subsidizing it with our tax dollars.

LIBERALS WAKE UP!!!! You will not accomplish anything by having more Governmental control of the Economy!!! You will just ruin it!!
2/5/2011 9:02 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Delivery Confirmation and the USPS in general are a a piece of shit. I mailed a package (containing a textbook) on Dec. 17. I checked the Delivery Confirmation page a few weeks later, and it said "Delivery status not updated as of Dec. 20." I went to the post office and complained. These two dumb bitches had such attitude, and they refused to give me any money back. I lost the package AND the postage fees. WTF is the purpose of Delivery Confirmation?? They agreed to provide a service. I paid for that service. They didn't provide the service. And they keep my money! The USPS is a bunch of dumb fuckers with attitude - no wonder they're losing $8.5 billion a year.

I agree with so many people here that USPS and Fedex tracking really SUCKS some packages are SO SLOW two even missed my Xmas recipients when it was sent ahead of time and assured that it would reach even before Xmas! I've been waiting for some stuff ordered on eBay and there is NO updated information where my packages are and have been sitting for a week ON THE WEST COAST (I live in Hawaii). USPS been raising their rates and why?? When their service been sucking more and more.
2/18/2011 4:16 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I ordered 18 books from a book outlet in Connecticut on Jan 22. It was delivered to me on Feb 11th. The only problem was that they delivered an EMPTY box. I would guess that the box got caught on their convayer belt somewhere and sliced the reinforced sealing tape on the bottom which opened one of the flaps. But my question is: didn't the idiot that picked the box up off the belt notice that it was empty?? So the next morning I went to my local Post Office which is only a half mile away. I was number 6 in line and there was one clerk at a window although there were 5 windows marked closed. You could hear all the shouting and laughter from the back room. So much for hard work! After a wait of 20 minutes I placed the empty box on the counter to which the clerk asked whats the matter to which I replied...ITS EMPTY!!! He said..Oh..you have to take it downtown to the main post office..Which is only 6 miles away. When I arrived at the main.office I again stood in line but this time it took 30 minutes.. and then the clerk said ..Oh you have to go down the hall in front to the first door on the right.. which I soon discovered was locked.. After much pounding a guy came and opened the door. I had to explain every thing over to which I waited while he found the right forms.. He had name..number ..etc. Today I called downtown and got some other guy in that same room and had to explain all over.. His first question: Was it insured??? DOES IT MATTER??? Then he said " We only call if we have a " POSITIVE" answer" In other words..If they can't find 18 books off the belt somewhere FORGET it.. So..What..the sweeper gets to take the books that I paid $168.00 for home??? In 1992 a special committie held a hearing to check on the customer satisfaction with the post office...It was lousey..and STILL is.

Looking over commences: I just will not ship by usps! I think they should go ahead and close down the usps.

2/21/2011 9:42 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
IT is called DELIVERY CONFIRMATION!!! NOT TRACKING. That is how it is sold.
Don't dog the USPS for something you failed to understand. As for packages to the military, don't blame USPS either. The military system is what takes so long. Sometimes they cannot get mail out to the troops depending on circumstances. Is that the fault of the Post Office?

If people are receiving that much of a bad service, why dont they bunch up and launch a class action lawsuit?

If there is so many items lost or delayed that would give perfect grounds to get some payback...

my 2 cents
3/24/2011 7:26 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
usps does NOT track packages. what you see when you get that number is Delivery Confirmation. DC is simply done when the package arrives, that's it. sometimes that number will show where a package has traveled but only because a post office employee chose to scan it. they do not have to scan the package. some do, usually because they need to know something about it, but it is not tracking like UPS or FEDex have.

4/23/2011 6:27 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I think there's a lot of misunderstanding about what USPS services provide, and what they do not. First of all, Priority with delivery confirmation does not offer tracking. The only thing USPS is required to do with priority with delivery confirmation is to record that a parcel has been delivered. That, mind you, is with parcels that are shipped within the USA. Once a parcel has left the USA, it has left the control of the USPS. If your global priority parcel from New York to Barcelona takes five weeks, chances are excellent that it has been held up in Spain (ask me how I know that!).

IF you want thorough tracking, the best ways to send are (1) insured and/or (2) registered. Every time a registered parcel changes hands, somebody has to sign for it. Registered parcels take much longer than the others, but there is a clear paper trail.

FYI, both Brown (UPS) and Fed Ex have USPS deliver some of their mail. Why? USPS is much less expensive. Of course USPS delivers in one day what Fed Ex carries in a year; it takes four days for the USPS to deliver what UPS carries in a year.... If you understand what USPS can and can't do, they are as reliable as any other courier service -- and at a significantly reduced price.

I ordered an iPad 2 FOUR weeks ago. I got the cover, which was ordered at the SAME time as my iPad, but IT was shipped via FedEx (I love those guys)they kept me updated of when and where my package was at all times and even told me who signed for it at my house! So now I have the cover... But no iPad... AND it still says it's in Hong Kong when it should have been updated already. Eff the UPS. They suck major balls...

Did a transaction through Craig list receive tracking number am I glad that I ran into this site. Now not so worried. When my package was going to Las Vegas from Canada I could track receiver getting it on a daily basis I knew where my package was even the fact it had been attempted to be deliver and a card left. Pick up copy of signature off the computer of her receiving the package. I have had three days with the tracking number the seller gave from Vegas and still no information. Not impressed with the United States Post. Paying extra for the ability to track it. Are they going to reimburse me the lack of tracking I doubt it.

Ordered a single nailpolish from eBay 3 weeks ago, along with some other stuff from other sellers in the US (I order from overseas quite often). The other orders were delivered to my country within 10 days as usual, yet my nailpolish is nowhere to be found. According to the tracking code, it took 2 weeks to get from Texas to NY and has been in the Jamaica facility since Friday.

I contacted the seller about this, asking if they knew if there were any delays or if Hurricane Irene was holding things up. They said it has been happening quite frequently lately, even before Irene. I have another package from Barnes & Noble ordered around the same time, also not delivered as of yet. I checked the USPS website to see if there were any delays going on but there were none at the Jamaica facility nor my country.

I don't know what USPS is doing nowadays but they seriously need to get their act together and sort this mess out. All I can do now is wait and hope both packages will turn up at all.

China Post Registered mail is the worst!! Then after checking China post that supposedly cleared customs after 10 working days, you check the China Post tracking number with the USPS. It stays LOCKED in, "Origin Post is Preparing shipping" Forever n ever n ever on USPS's tracking page. Then you call the USPS, they have no idea where the package is at! They tell you to contact the shipper for an inquiry as to where the package is located. Then they say, "The inquiry can take fro 30-60 days!!"

Then, the Chinese shipper tells you, "You'll get the goods very soon, Goods in USA!" This is stated after you ask them to do an inquiry!! Holy Slow Boat From China when it's supposed to be Registerd "AIR" Mail. DON'T NEVER EVER USE CHINA POST REGISTERED MAIL!!!!

Ordered an item from email Friday, says its supposed to be here today (Monday, September 19. There was no tracking at all, until I called USPS to complain. I took off work to wait for this package that I have to sign for. It says that it is on the truck for delivery, but I find it funny that I had to call to complain for them to update my online Track and Delivery for my Priority package...

Ordered a package from over two weeks ago and paid extra for expedited shipping- was told it would be here yesterday. According to USPS tracking, it is still on the opposite side of the world in the ORIGINATING POST OFFICE awaiting for "Dispatch." They've got to be kidding. I needed it by tomorrow, and it wasn't in the mail today...

I live in Manhattan, Ny. Purchased an item off amazon from a company in brooklyn,ny. Ok great it shouldn't take long I'm thinking. My package was processed through the sort facility in Brooklyn 2 days ago and now it says it's processed through the sort facility in San Bernardino,CA today. So basically they sent my package which was only 15 miles from my home all the way across the country.

I hate USPS!

11/28/2011 9:36 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I ordered six items from Amazon. The two that were delivered fedex arrived in short order. The other four were sent USPS and ALL were misrouted. I did finally get all but one. It was shipped 24 days ago and I haven't seen it yet. No wonder they are going out of business. All delivery services should be run PRIVATELY. The postal workers know they have a job for life, so why bother to try harder?
12/1/2011 11:49 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I had a parcel send from Burlington, NC on August 24th 2011, with USPS to Namibia. USPS tracking shows that it was processed through ISC Miami on September 6, 2011 and that it is in transit to destination. WELL, IT IS STILL IN TRANSIT and not received yet. All requests to USPS for a response also gets ignored. It is 2 months now and NOTHING ... what shall I do (or is it because I live in Africa).
12/6/2011 11:11 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
It really all depends upon where you live. For me, FedEx can't seem to find my house (often returning it to the sender, falsely saying it was "undeliverable"). UPS, while they are very consistent, are also usually slower than USPS. In fact UPS and FedEx often dump their deliveries into the USPS system for delivery in my area because the USPS system does it more economically than they could do it themselves. I personally prefer USPS Priority as a carrier when given a choice (it's usually 2 days from anywhere in the nation to my doorstep -- and a week or so from Hongkong) -- but that is merely the peculiarities of where I live (a little North of San Francisco). Clearly, other people in other parts of the nation have the opposite experience (as evidenced by this site). I am not defending the USPS here (they have their issues) but I also suggest you look up "UPS sucks" or "FedEx sucks" -- you will find equally long lists of posts from many disgruntled people complaining about them too. Kvetching about the inadequacies of package delivery is a popular American pastime, or so it seems.
12/22/2011 9:52 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I am an eBay seller who ships out items 24-48 hours after payment is received 100% of the time! In the past 15 days I have shipped everything priority, and about 1/2 of those items have not reached their destinations, and tracking seems to be stuck at "in transit". I personally take packages to the post office immediately after the sale, so there is no question that USPS has a major problem. I am not "disgruntled" as some call it. I have angry customers emailing me left and right because Items they ordered well before Christmas that were put into the hands of USPS well before Christmas have not been delivered. Even though I shipped when I was supposed to and paid for fast services, items aren't getting where they are supposed to be and nothing can be done except to wait. NO ONE should be allowed to charge for services they cannot provide.

1/10/2012 11:54 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
There is a reason that their tracking is called "Delivery Confirmation". It is only ment to tell the shipper that the item has arrived. I have always had good experience with the USPS Priority Mail Service. I sent a package from Maryland to some distant part of Washington State and it got their in two days. For two day service from a private service it would have been over $30, I payed $7.25 (includes insurance).

It's not tracking, it's confirmation of delivery. That's why all the forms and webpages say 'delivery confirmation' and not 'tracking'.

Don't ever send anything of value to Italy. I learned the hard way that of all the countries USPS sends to (over 170) they are the worst. I am not saying anything bad about the country of which I love. It took a couple of weeks to get there- an insured very expensive pair of eyeglasses. When it arrived, the Italy post office demanded $170 US dollars for importing. That was refused and it was sent back to US. Total loss $39 and 3 months.

I have 5 parcels from US. All was sent using USPS priority mail service. One package has a problem. Its says. "Delivery status information is not available for your item via this web site. A return receipt after mailing may be available through your local Post Office."

I am really worried. It's been seven days now since it was shipped. But still It can't be tracked online. I have called them already. I also contacted the sender. She told me she'll get back as soon as she receive an update from USPS.
They say there is noe record for them t/n. What should I do? I have been receiving 1-6 packages per month. This was the 1st time I've encountered this problem. Can someone enlighten me?
3/13/2012 8:21 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
When people get "tracking" on a USPS mailpiece, they are usually paying for Delivery Confirmation. As the term suggests, its purpose is to confirm delivery, not provide tracking information. Often tracking info is available, but that is not guaranteed. Tracking is offered, however, with other USPS services, such as Express Mail and Registered Mail.

A package sent to me from China took 2 or 3 days to get to the USA. It has been sitting at the USPS ICS NY facility now for 11 days. I called USPS three times. On e man told me that their system was confusing, and that the location that I saw when I tracked the item was really the destination! He told me that the package was still on China. Another person told me that he was wrong - that the package WAS at ICS, NY. A third person told me that the package "could" be at ICS, or that it "could" have been sent to me in Massachusetts a week ago, or yesterday, or that it "could" even be lost. No one KNOWS.

I was told that my registered mail package could stay at ICS for quite a while, as people there are handling it "carefully", signing off each time they handle it. All this "care", but no scanning between the time of arrival at ICS, and the time of delivery which will be God knows when? IF my package is lost, trying to find it NOW would make sense, not a month from now when it "seems" all the more that it's lost. I want to be supportive of OUR postal service, but it often pales in relation to Fedex and UPS. They whine about a decrease in mail going through and a loss of revenue, while at the same time saying that they can't scan packages in a better manner because they have too many of them. I was also told to contact the shipper in China and ask him to initiate a trace. I can't do this, even though I have the tracking number, address/recipient information, and paid for the shipping. I'm in Mass., the package may be in NYC, and a guy in China has to do this. I did contact him yesterday. His reply? Call 800-ASK-USPS.
4/17/2012 7:19 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I work for the post office. the reason that some of these packages sit for a few days is it is in customs waiting to be checked. If you go to track your item and it says its in nyc why would you call to see where it is. The computer does give the right info. The reason it takes so long to show where your item is because we have to download the scanner. once its downloaded it should pop up when u track it. not all of us are perfect. The reason we r going under is not because of packages its because of of the internet and automatic payment. Just trying to tell you the facts.. have a good night.
4/20/2012 6:37 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Going under "because of the Internet and automatic payment"????? That makes no sense!!! I order more products FOR DELIVERY than I ever did before "the internet". And what does "automatic payment" have to do with it??? You are going out of business because of unions and an inability to streamline and be competitive!
5/3/2012 4:18 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I'm from the UK and I ordered an item from a business in Tarzana, CA. I opted for USPS's Priority International at a cost of $45, which is actually more that the cost of the item I've purchased.

The package, according to USPS was collected from the business at 16:48 on Tuesday 1st May. That's the first issue, The business booked it to be picked up on the 31st April.

I have the full tracking details for the package and so far the system seems to be only updated at the end of the business day, not instantly like most carriers.

Secondly, my "priority" package has only travelled a grand total of 24 miles in 46 hours, less than 1/2 a mile per hour on average.

Currently it's position states that it's at L.A.X, where it's been for the last 28 hours.

Now I'm not un-reasonable and I know that it should take a few days for a package to travel 5500 miles but what I cannot accept is that I paid for a PRIORITY delivery and not only were USPS a full day late in picking it up, now they've held it at the airport for over 24hrs. That to me is not priority.

5/13/2012 9:16 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Things shipped to other countries - USPS is in the USA the postal service for the other country takes over on arrival there. If you don't insure or track your rolling the dice "but" most mail gets where its going problem free even if slow at times. Also, you can't blame USPA because the other country is slow. USPS used to be a little better than it currently but they are still claimed to be the best postal service in the world and deliver more mail than the other countries combined. Things will get worse when they have to close a lot of offices and cease Saturday service thanks to a certain political party that is more interested in destroying unions than they are in the economy or what's good for the country. Only Congress can fix what they mucked up with their interferance.
5/19/2012 8:21 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
USPS is really sucks not only the tracking system but also the delivery service. I mailed an international package and still have not received although it pasted 60days. The officer said it would take 2~3 weeks; however....
I could not trust USPS company as a customer service company. The service is really aweful!

I order and paid for something from Mexico, got a track number but when I go and check it claims (ICS at New York) when I call they tell me they are working on it and it will be here soon. The package was mailed out on May 7, register male. It has been in the ICS department sine June 1, as of date I still haven't received. The packages that I order from Germany and other Europe countries are here within 15 days. What is the hold up from Mexico.
6/21/2012 11:26 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I ship, allow me to reiterate, I used to ship a lot with USPS but never again. The delivery confirmation / tracking, they seem to call it either or depending on which suits their position (It should be noted that on the USPS site it is called a tracking number as in enter tracking number here).
I recently came to the conclusion that the post office does not scan in delivery confirmation items when they arrive at your local post office, they only scan out for delivery. This is done to keep customers from trotting down to their local post office to pick up packages that have arrived but will not go out for delivery until the next day or even later. Nothing beats knowing your item is there and in some cases waiting two to three days for them to decide to get off their lazy asses to deliver it. This happens constantly to me on both ends, shipping & receiving. My local distribution center that feeds my local post office is 2.5hrs drive time from said post office. I've seen items depart the distribution center according to USPS tracking only to arrive up to four days later.
On the shipping end I've had many a person who is not familiar with USPS tracking contact me believing that their item has been lost due to the fact that they tracked it to a local center and expect delivery asasp, only to have the item not show up for days. Trying to explain USPS tracking to someone is impossible and I'm sick of it.
Glad to pay the extra pennies to use an alternative carrier, the peace of mind is worth every cent.
6/21/2012 5:11 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
It is really a big disgrace to USA as a country and to the citizens to have such a shitty postal service. It has already been 30 days since I ordered a parcel with USPS to Greece and the only thing that has happened is that my package has been misrouted and stuck in a town called Burnsville. Seriously we are an almost bankrupt country here and still our postal services have a 0,5% rate of lost or seriously delayed packages. I totally understand your anger for having to pay taxes for this unreliable service . One thing for sure I will never again use USPS, I wish knew this thread before shipping via USPS. I highly recommend everyone to avoid it.
6/22/2012 6:09 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
If the tracking # is on a package that the customer printed out Pre-paid labels themselves (businesses and E-bay customers who do alot of selling do this) and they just take it to the Post Office dump it in the outgoing mail drops, especially if they drop it at larger facilities... IT IS NOT scanned by Post Office personel UNTIL it reaches the destination office. The Post Office is trying to rectify this by adding an option to our scanners and computer/cash registers....it is called "Pre-paid Mail Acceptance". What this does is scan the item into our mailstream and then it is somewhat trackable by the customer.....by somewhat; I mean it shows acceptance by the outgoing office (shipped same day), BUT then it is not scanned again until it shows up at the destination facility...it is then scanned as "Arrival At Unit" and again as "Attempted" or "Delivered". I know this because I work for the Post Office....So....If you can't track your package ask your seller how he/she mailed it....and remember it's not totally the Post Office's fault.

7/5/2012 7:36 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
This is now my second box USPS lost in the mail. The first one was my Dad's important files, family pictures, and books I sent to myself in another state when he was sick. I dealt with that for 2 months, calling and emailing the Dallas Post Office. I sent pictures of items to a few of the managers, and nothing showed up. I had to put an Identity Theft Protection on my dad, my sister, and myself because our ss#s were on the some of the paperwork. The sent back a small amount of paperwork with the hand written address on the carboard of part of my box. It was pretty sick joke in my opinion. My current situation is I sold a costume to a girl in Hawaii and she never received it. I bought insurance on it and just filed a claim online. I hope they will refund me within the 30 days they promise on their site. It has been a headache dealing with them, the poor girl is without a costume she wanted really bad and I had to refund her. These experiences have taught me how much USPS SUCKS terribly!!! It makes me never want to sell anything on ebay again.

To Steve Rivkin posted 5/13/2012 9:16 AM: Really? You think that, quote: "thanks to a certain political party that is more interested in destroying unions than they are in the economy". WOW! I would never want you as an employee or business partner. USPS posted a loss of over $5 billion dollars this year. Needless to say they have never broken even. Why? Duh, NO COMPATITION Read all the posts. Why would they make an effort to go above and beyond what their core responsibilities are? I mean, really, they only make $20 plus an hr. PLUS life time benefits. Good gosh! That just isn’t enough for them to say: “Hello, or thank you for your business”. Man, what slave drivers the government are! Now it’s all the “other parties” fault? I know…. your fix is to keep throwing more money at until it’s fixed. That has worked so well with social security, Medicare, DOT, Welfare, and Education; I can’t believe we just ain’t a doin it here with your tax paid under funded USPS system. Get your head out of your lower end Steve. Please, please use your brain. As a side note: I have worked, and still do, in factories for over 25yrs. I take pride in what I do and do not expect anything to be given to me. I want to earn it! Go Capitalism!!!

Hey, Why not? That's why they're going down with the business. And do not rest asking congress every six months for a stamp price hike...Someone told me that those fed's are even so affraiad of the Chinesse taking over in the near future. Since they are so hungry and more hungry everyday in doing business in the states for a portion of the cost the USPS now charge. P.S To be way on time time too. Bye bye fed workers that's why you suck. Cause uncle sam saves your ass every year. Bye

For me, I send a package from Upstate NY to Western MA once a mo. w/delivery confirmation and it costs 7 to 9 bucks and gets there next day 4 out of 5 times. You don't get confirmation 'till after it's been delivered, but if you want to watch your package travel, you can use Fed-Ex and pay them 25 0r 30 bucks to deliver in 3 or 4 days. Your choice!!

This company's gettin on my nerves so fucking bad. Ordered a volt e-cig kit online (been tryin to stop smokin...) and they shippd it out on the same day on 'first class' international shipping from new philly....believe me, ain't nothing first class with this bullshit company. I was told to wait for 2-4 weeks since I live in Sweden so i did. After waitin patiently for a whole month the 'track n confirm' tells me that the parcel was sent back to New Philadelphia so i contacted volt and had them resend it to me. Its been 10 days since then and it seems stuck in Chicago for some reason. All I know is if my shit don't get delivered, expect a USPS massacre cuz honestly I'm too nicotine deprived for this kinda shit that.

CJ, why come to this website and defend USPS? They have let customers down time and time again. I ordered my package 3 weeks ago, and just recently the tracking information was updated. It said, acceptance in China Peoples Rep. Hasn't been updated since. It is frustrating because I would like to know ROUGHLY where my package is, and when it will be delivered. I didn't get to choose what Postal Service, the seller just sent it with this. I will never use USPS.

I just don't buy ANYTHING on eBay anymore unless I can make arrangements to have it shipped UPS or FedEx. The USPS shipping in my area is the worst on the planet. With paid for tracking I would check it and it would say "delivered" the day before they even tried to deliver it. With standard tracking I have never received two major purchases totaling over 400$. After the last one I don't even use them to send people packages anymore. I don't care how much they try to undercut the competition to stay in business since the advent of email; there is just no excuse for their attitude towards giving people a decent level of service. It is like the USPS has some kind of "I don't give a shit" disease.
9/22/2012 4:20 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I bought a pair of 120 dollar headphones from someone in Texas, US. He supposedly shipped on the 6th. He gave me a tracking number, the USPS website said the tracking number is not found in the system for EIGHT DAYS until on the 14th it finally appears. Having had great service with UPS and Canada Post shipping and tracking, I didn't realize it was the terrible shipping and thought my seller was a scammer and had some heated words with him. He kept on saying he shipped it but since the tracking said it wasn't in the system after EIGHT DAYS!!! I was getting pretty worried and annoyed, when really it is not his fault but the stupid SHIPPING!

He shipped using Priority Mail International and it is supposed ot arrive in 6-10 days. Technically by the 12th I could've already got it, and 16th the latest. Guess where it was the 13th? It was still at the sorting facility in TEXAS, where the package is originally sent from! A week and it is still at the starting point!! Now it is the 22nd and still no news.

My experience with amazon using UPS and Blurb using Canada Post has been awesome, so this horrible USPS service particularly surprises me! With amazon.ca the UPS shipping came in 2 days! Canada Post came in 4 days! Yes they were domestic but tracking was spotless and updated quickly, unlike USPS which takes 8 days for the tracking number to even enter the system!

If you can't guarantee it is going to come in so-and-so days, don't guarantee it! It adds so much worry and stress, not to mention fear and indecision that your seller may be a scammer, when your package does not come on time, and the tracking sucks!

Really this thread was started in 2006? Six years and no change in the quality of their service.

I hope some one from usps will read this: I shipped a package to out of country from Las Vegas 2 months ago they said it will be in destination from 5 to 10 days. i follow couple times to know where the item is as in online tracking system doesn't show anything if it goes out of US. After like 3 or 4 times call post office said sometime customs randomly opens items and they may kept it for some reason and we don't have any control, so I called customs in Jamaica New York, they said you should call usps we do not touch items that go out of US. they put me in a circle, they behave very rude however i try to be nice and i cant find my item. so disappointed, i use to have faith on americans companies.

UPS SUCK, UPS SUCK, UPS SUCK, UPS SUCK, UPS SUCK, UPS SUCK, UPS SUCK, UPS SUCK, UPS SUCK,,I ordered a few times from USA to Spain, UPS charge me a few times the custom charges plus some charges for manipulating or something... at the end I paid about 30-40 perfent more of the value. There´s also some F..ing lady in Madrid whos name is "Pacheco" or something like that... She returned my package cause she said I need some papers for getting a tattoo machine to spain. I paid about 200 hundred dollars just for they to send id back from madrid to new york. ( I pay cause I already pay 400 and have people in new york to get the machine in NY and send it to me with another carrier). I complained to ups cause there is no law that says I can´t buy a tattoo machine, just I can´t buy needles or use a tattoo machine if I don´t run a tattoo studio. the result was that the person in charge of complaints was the same girl, so her answer was she was right, I ask her for the papers to fill and she didn´t want to send me . I felt powerless.
I send the girl a email and say insulting her, I hope she get out of her job soon and find herself living in the street or something and die soon. I lost 200 buck just for her ignorance.

I purchased an olympic jacket on November 30th from Chicago. I live in Ca, so I shocked when I checked the tracking on dec 1 and it said my package should arrive dec 3. Dec 3rd rolled around and my jacket was in still in Illinois. When I checked the location later that night, the jacket was in Ca and only 2 hours away and they changed the delivery date to the 5th. Dec 4th came and my jacket was 1 1/2 hours away. I checked again this morning and my jacket had made 4 stops in what should be a 2 hour drive. I'm pretty sure I didn't pay to have my jacket take the scenic route down to me. Does it really need to stop at every post office to be scanned in? Now it's saying it won't be delivered until the 7th, but I won't hold my breath.

Whether they are rubbish or not, the price cannot be beat, I ordered a fishing reel which cost me 57 USD to send to Malta, should I have used UPS it would have been 287 USD. I would rather wait an extra 2 or 3 weeks and save a hell of a lot more money, I can actually buy 2 reels if I use USPS for the price of buying one and sending one!

If everyone is really upset with USPS start using the big money senders. For myself, I can wait to save more money.

USPS is really a nightmare at times when it comes to tracking. but i haven't had any issues in terms of delivery. no package has been lost.

their tracking system is what you might not expect. not up to date. if i were you, dont rely on this system. if you really want an up to date system, try other options like Fedex or UPS,if its a high valued item. otherwise wait 10-14 days via USPS. at least.

btw, dont ever bother to email them, since they are also clueless with regards to the whereabouts of your package.

done here.

5/15/2013 8:23 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I ordered a MacBook from a very reliable and trust worthy shoppe in New York, it was shipped through priority mail too. I wasn't wary about shipping through USPS since I have done it before with an equally expensive item and they delivered seamlessly and up to date.

Now I regret it. For four days I have gotten NO solid confirmation where my goddamn package is! It's travelled from New York to Hawaii, said it left Hawaii sorting facility on said date, then the expected delivery date is the exact same one that the sorting facility received my package.

What the hell? It's been stuck there for four days now, I don't know where my package is, I tried to call customer service and I swear to god, they are complete bigots; useless, unfriendly, rude, obnoxious and every other synonym that shouldn't even be associated with an employee for customer service.

If they lose or someone steals my $2,000 package, I'm taking them to court. Fuck this.

I'm 53 and have been using the USPS successfully for most of those years with no problems - including many on-line sales shipped almost always with tracking and it always gets there, quickly in most cases. They cost much less than the newer shipping companies, too!
How would you like sending your mail along with the airline luggage?
Then you'd really have something to complain about !!!

USPS is the worst courier service existing. Yet it is so popularly used in ebay and many vendor sites. I so much hate USPS. Even their International Priority takes a month+ to get to UAE from USA. And is far more expensive than other courier services that ship very efficiently, with real-time tracking. USPS has no transit-tracking and it takes many weeks to arrive.

DHL is the best i've used. Cost-effective and fast.

I wished I have been to this forum before my first purchase on eBay. I bought an item on 9 Apr and the seller said he had sent it via USPS to my home in Hong Kong on 11 Apr. After a month now and still there is no sight of my item. The seller said tracking showed the item had left USA a long time ago and asked me if the customs in HK is holding it? Honestly with the very efficient and reliable customs and postal service in HK, I truly don't believe the package is trapped here.
Sigh... I will just for few more days. Hopefully the seller will refund if the item still doesn't come, though I also feel sorry for the seller because this is obviously not his fault.

Kent WA is a sort facility where the USPS sends packages that it has screwed up the code read. Generally it means a clerk has made an error with your package and there are make-work employees at Kent who will rescan the package and compare the code with the printed address. Everything is done manually there and they are notoriously slow. Add another week or two to expected delivery time.

What is with isc NY? This is the 2nd time they screwed me with not shipping a package. It gets here from overseas and just sits at isc. I wonder if there's stealing going on or just laziness on the part of the employees. Maybe they just hire people right off the street...

I have been tracking this package that has been at the Miami sort facility for the last couple of weeks. I had a packaged seized already from the usps sort facility. Is my address "red flagged" now where I will have to have closer scrutiny of any packages that I receive at my address? or are things just moving slower at the Miami sorting facility. At this point, I wouldn't mind if things were moving slower, just would love to know if and when I will be receiving my package. Please advise on my "red flag" question. Thank you.

living in the uk, i know very little about usps. i ordered an item from america on 4th Jan, it arrived in the uk on 12 Jan at 5am and my disappointment in the delivery begins....there's lots of information about where the item has been, it appears to have toured the US before getting a plane to england. it arrived here and i assume was passed on to the uk mail service, or maybe a courier. i have to assume this because there's no further information and i still haven't gotten my delivery yet. i hope the turtle they gave it to doesn't stop at a service station for some food!

3/30/2015 5:57 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Usps tracking sucks hard no better way to put it ive ordered about 20 items off of ebay in my experience (not much compared to some but stilk enough to create a good opinion) and every time the only thing their supposed "tracking" would tell me is picked up by carrier and departed from facility and the day it arrived it would finally update everything that it should have told me as it was happening.

usps would be better off getting rid of this tracking system altogether and focusing the resources into a better place or actually fixing these problems and creating a reliable tracking system.
4/7/2015 5:54 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I had a horrible experience, 2 months ago I returned a non-working phone to china by usps. when i uploaded the usps tracking to ebay. last time i checked it scanned from fairfield, iowa to chicago, after that there is no scanned . that means the product i returned to seller is just gone. I contact with ebay they were told me that i didnt send the item back to seller and another shocking news was the item i purchase was disappear from my ebay purchase history. I didnt know where should i go. so pathetic...

USPS is still sucking hard after all these years and trillions of our tax dollars to improve it. But, you got to hand it to them, at least they are consistent.
4/24/2015 2:52 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
why is it that after my parkcage i have to pay $300 just to get it from post office and not home delivery for that matter cos all necessary money have been payed by the person that send it. really in an angry state right now cos is like am using the money to buy what the person send to me from them instead of getting it for free. why that huge amount please
5/14/2015 10:35 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
The USPS may suck, I will agree with that much, But my Tracking Number has Info on it today. I ordered the Max Pack of DDP Yoga DVDs last night and I checked my tracking number to find that it actually showed Info on the Tracking Number page. Yeah I do know that this might be lucky for me, But I still agree that the USPS needs a major overhaul and no one not even me can deny that. But now just to see how long it takes my package to get here.
6/17/2015 11:20 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
So, it turns out the USPS Tracking is now sucking even harder than it has in the past. I was told today that the USPS is no longer restoring tracking numbers online that are old and "not found" and that the USPS will no longer track packages longer than 45 days after shipment. This means, if the package is delivered within 45 days, you better get a screen shot of that delivery scan, otherwise you have no proof and the online scammers are going to exploit this NOW. Also, if the USPS hasn't delivered your package in 45 days, and they "lost it" there is no longer any hope of seeing it delivered after that point. 45 days after shipping, the tracking number goes *POOF*. Real nice. Glad we are now paying for tracking that not only sucks, but will not help merchants dispute chargebacks for merchandise delivered. Oh yeah, and if you have an online website, say goodbye to your income. You can;t accept Chip Cards, you can't show proof of delivery over 45 days old, you're SCREWED! Thanks USPS! Thanks Credit Card Industry! Thanks so much.

I bought a Jersey and it had been shipped 8/13 and its still not here, apparently its in China getting accepted according to USPS tracking!!
9/18/2015 3:35 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
It will take a minimum of 24 hours from the time of booking the package for the tracking information to show up on the USPS site. Some times it will take even more due to some technical problems.
12/22/2015 8:40 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Just a little lesson on how tracking works - and the differences between USPS giving you a tracking number and any seller (ebay, amazon, or whomever). The post office gives a tracking number that is scanned before it goes on the truck, and it is physically done. ANY seller can use any number of shipping options and give you a tracking number - and here is the rub - that tracking number you get is an UNtracked tracking number until your seller physically gets it into a post office. They can give you a tracking number and still not ship it for days. It's nothing but a "this will be your tracking number when I decide to get it to the actual post office", so it is not a Post Office issue. The post office cannot send it out until they get it in their hands.

Furthermore, UPS, Fedex and DHL quite often transfer your package to a USPS center, which makes for very confusing messages. You may see a "out for delivery" message, or "package reached it destination" message (and several others) which mean absolutely nothing for the person waiting on a package. UPS, Fedex an DHL use these terms in THEIR tracking system, usually referring to reaching a distribution center, or being loaded on their trucks, or bringing to a USPS facility to finish the trip (delivered, in their case). THEN the package gets a USPS tracking number, and it quite often never makes it to the shipper's tracking site, and when you look the original number up - the rest of the trip is unavailable for you to see, and you cannot check it on USPS because you aren't given the second tracking number by your shipper. So, it looks like it "disappears". Once the Post Office receives it for delivering to you, THEY get the number, and all of a sudden, your package is there or getting to your location and the number shows up because the tracking number is scanned by the post office. It is NOT so cut and dry as everyone who is not a Post Office employee might think it is.

Just one more thing - if your package was in China, or some such info, its because thousands of Ebay and other sellers don't handle your merchandise at all. It is drop shipped from a warehouse somewhere, and sometimes very far away from where the seller has his business. When you buy from online businesses, check and see where the item is actually shipped from, not where the seller is from. I know Ebay actually quite often will have that information. "ships worldwide" is a good clue that your item is not coming from where your seller lives.

So much for my 30 years experience at the Post Office.

Ordered an Xbox one last Sunday it said it would be at my house between Wednesday and Saturday, still has not shown up. Over a full week since I ordered it. The customer service is garbage, absolute trash. You never actually talk to a person on the phone, and the options you have are ridiculous. Just not a good service at all, it is a shame.
