United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard

i've recently purchased an ebay item where the seller used the usps priority mail to ship it...and kindly enough sent me the tracking information for it...

so naturally i go to the usps.com site to get tracking information...what a lie.  the tracking information only appears to get updated once the package is delivered...so much for the usps to provide up-to-date tracking...i wonder why it is even offered...

It's more for the sender than the receiver.
  2. 7/2/2004 5:17 AM | # re: usps 'tracking'
My feelings exactly. I purchase quite a lot from suppliers that use UPS and it's frustrating to only see the tracking when it's on my doorstep. FedEx's tracking is lightyears ahead.

My son is on leave from Afghanistan and on 12/22 I sent him a Priority Mail. Today is 12/29 and it still hasn't gotten to him. This is shear stupidity on the Post Office's part. They really do suck.yA=

This service really sucks, I have been waiting for my package for over two weeks and still yet have not received it. A new system should be taken in consideration!!!!
  7. 2/27/2005 5:31 PM | # re: usps 'tracking'
I agree you get the package before they list any kind of info, but yet everyone else seems to have their shit together!
  8. 7/20/2005 8:44 AM | # re: usps 'tracking'
Hey Tim, maybe what you don't seem to realize is that Priority Mail doesn't have tracking, unless you purchase it separatly... I think it's registered, certified, or return recepit. Now Express Mail does have tracking built in to the purchase of the express mail postage. Look into it.

Still waiting in Hawaii it's beena little while and what I found out is even the private courriers can't next day air anything to Hawaii, it's 2nd day services that actually is what they can only supply our shipments.

What's the deal with the Postal Service?
  17. 3/9/2006 8:09 PM | # re: usps 'tracking'
I love the UPS and FedEX tracking. But USPS sucks. I've gotten two of my packages today and I've checked their site and it still says that they've just recieved the package from the sender and that they'll update the information, if available. Then at the last several minutes I got an email (I subscribed to the track & confirm by email) that it got delivered to my house. Stupid. And the first email I got from this was the starting point as to where my package is currently located. It doesn't update me on where it was heading next, either. USPS is a freaking joke and they should really just... die. I'm happy with FedEx/UPS. I'm sure Airborne is good too but I never used them before. As long as the tracking is good I'm happy with it. I'm upset that most of the stuff I ordered used USPS. They should just rot and die.

what's the deal with this postal service? tracking has no use if you can't see what has happened to your post. why do they even bother placing a tracking number if they do not update daily? up to this time, the same message still appears since day 1. that was the day the person shipped the item.

I live in Canada and IT'S BEEN OVER FIVE WEEKS NOW since the seller in Massachusetts sent my keyboard and guess what?(you guessed right I am livid right now). A sampler I bought from St. Paul Minnesota was sent to me in two packages; the first one got here in a week(!) and now two weeks after getting that one the second one is still nowhere to be seen. I am poor and just dropped my whole tax return on my dream music gear and now it looks like they went and threw anything with my name on it in the dumpster(except for part one of the St. Paul order which as luck would have it had all the cables to run it in the second box!) Yes I learned my lesson and yes USPS SHOULD DIE OF CANCER OF THE FACE!
  23. 6/9/2008 4:25 PM | # re: usps 'tracking'
I had a big blow out at my local usps located in wykagyl, new rochelle. I shipped a watch back to china that cost me $125.00, the clerk never asked me if I wanted insurance or tracking she took my package threw it into a box on the floor and charged me so I paid and left.. What Im not a usps expert I figured she was doing her job so I took it at face value. Well, the box never got to China, still missing some 3 months later til this day which is 6/9/08. So, basicall I lost my watch and money. With no tracking or insurance I was livid because I wasn't offered any by the clerk.OF COURSE the clerk said she offered it (LIAR). So I got nothing, no way to trace, track or figure out what happened.. So what would stop a USPS employee from just taking it home? I don't know? I raised HELL, but still I got nothing!

I don't understand, if I paid like $7.00 to ship this watch to China why doesn't that count for anything? Why is it that the USPS charges extra to be able to say to you 'we gaurantee your addressee will get this item" which is their job right? You give them a package, you pay and aren't they supposed to get your item to the other end where the person is waiting for it? Why do I have to pay extra for that?

I HATE THE USPS!! Also it sure seems coincidental that whenever I ship anything overseas without insurance it NEVER gets there!!! Wow!!! I guess the message is that if you don't pay the extra money you are giving your item away as a gift to some stranger.. Remember when you pay insurance the post office puts a stamp indicating there is insurance on the package.. but doesn't this make it very easy for a theif to know which packages are vulnerable to theft? In other words a worker can say 'OH LOOK NO INSURANCE STAMP, I CAN STEAL THIS WITHOUT AN INVESTIGATION" How about making every package look the same whether or not it's insured? HUH USPS??

    CROOKS!!
  24. 6/11/2008 8:04 AM | # re: usps 'tracking'
while USPS charge you around thirty dollars to send a document
overseas in express mail and promise you tracking the mail, it seems not
to be deligent about the tracking process. About two weeks ago, I sent a package overseas in express mail, USPS tracking information only shows the record of initial shipment of the package from JFK airport, no other updated record is shown!

  26. 6/13/2008 1:55 AM | # re: usps 'tracking'
    GRRRRR.

I ordered two packages online from the Czech Republic, on Sunday. The vendor mailed them on Tuesday, and gave me a USPS tracking number. Now it is Friday morning, and USPS tracking still says that they don't have my packages yet. The vendor promises 4 days to deliver (after sending) to the U.S., so it should be here today, still, tracking at USPS says the post office is still waiting for it. Their tracking SUCKS. I know they have it, because the Czech Republic mail service, ironicly, was able to confirm that they delivered it to USPS days ago! So its official, we have worse than a third world mail service.

I have used them twice. Never again! I would sooner have my parcel thrown in a dumster, so as to avoid the weeks and weeks of wondering if and when it will arrive. Why anyone offers this as an option on ebay is beyond me. What a way to pixx off a customer!

get this..i order an item on ebay, the guy wen to drop it off, they told him it wasnt properly wrapped...he took it home and 7 days later he sends it out, gives me a tracking number and ofcourse it only states that they got it on this day. No info as to where the f it is. I purchased the item on the 5th of june and here i am wondering where the *ell my package is. I hate the mail system.
  30. 6/24/2008 9:30 AM | # re: usps 'tracking'
I ordered a package from Hong Kong. I knew I should have gone with UPS or FedEx. The tracking info said the package was in Jamaica New York. That was on the 18th of June. It's the 24th and I haven't gotten it yet. I live in Philadelphia! I monkey on a scooter could get my package to me from New York in less than five days. USPS needs a revamp.
  31. 6/30/2008 4:46 AM | # re: usps 'tracking'
If you go to www.packagemapping.com you can track the package as well as ups or fed ex and even see a map of where your package is

    The tracking system is terrible
Been tracking for 4 days and acording to usps package has gone nowhere
  33. 7/11/2008 5:43 PM | # re: usps 'tracking'
I've had a lot of experience with priority mail. Basically, you get what you pay for. Priority mail, for lighter shipments, is usually much cheaper than ups or fedex, and almost always comes within 2-3 days, depending on the distance (there's a strange formula here--if you're close enough to the shipping origin they won't ship by air and it'll take longer than if it were further away) There's only one package that took too long, and the local post office managed to misplace the package. The tracking is indeed worse than UPS, but packages come in usually a third the time than UPS or FedEx Ground and the shipping is cheaper. If you train yourself to not be so concerned about where your package is every second of the day, then it'll be fine (I admit, I use to check these things once every couple of hours back when online shopping was new to me). Oh, and another plus: USPS ships on Saturdays!

One thing you have to note, especially with eBay sellers, is that priority mail is NOT the cheapest shipping method with confirmation. Even if the seller says they ship priority, they might be skimping on things and just send first class with delivery confirmation. First class mail really does take FOREVER. And of course, some sellers take forever to ship.

When it comes to international shipping, things aren't that simple. Most methods of shipping do not have any insurance, because USPS obviously has no control after the package leaves the US (remember, USPS is controlled by the US government--they can't really have any significant presence in other counries). There are some insured carriers, like EMS express, which will deal with the other local carriers, but you really need to know what you're doing before shipping internationally. FedEx and UPS, of course, have international shipping plans that are fast and have great tracking and insurance, but they're very, very expensive (last time I had to ship via that method, it was something like $25 or $35 for a ~1 lb package). You get what you pay for.

I happenend onto this site by accident while checking for usps updates to my package tracking information in vain for the third day. I've had not problems with their delivery service, but the tracking sucks all to high heaven. Dont they realize how fustrating it is for customers to be put through such incompetence. It would be better if they didn't offer the service at all then to offer it and not deliver. my package is also a ebay purchase. this also affects the sender, maybe you should post all the comments on ebay.

Those criticizing the USPS: give me a break! Sure it would be great for them to offer genuine tracking, but if it increases the rate as high as FedEx, UPS, DHL, then it's a big problem for most people. For most people and small businesses -- except large businesses who mail hundreds/thousands of items a day -- USPS is the best way to mail things because it's much less expensive than the other carriers! The only people who get a deal with these other carriers are large businesses. So, those who think the USPS should "die" should think about what it would do to small businesses!

I've mailed thousands of items using USPS, and they've only lost something twice (and I suspect that the item was stolen after delivery or the buyer was lying).

For price, the USPS has no competition (anywhere in the world). The US is lucky to have it. It's such a great deal that some Canadians come to the US to mail items back to Canada.

I had a package crammed in between two doors for two days, three days before USPS told me it was there. I wouldn't have even known if it wasn't for some kid trying to sell me candy via my front door.

MPS - You're missing the point entirely.

If USPS wants to offer cheaper shipping without tracking that's not a problem. It is a problem when they offer it, you pay thinking you're going to get it, and then they don't deliver (bad pun I know). It's completely dishonest.

Saying you get what you pay for is crap. There are plenty of services and products I pay less for which do exactly what they claim to just as well, or reasonably well compared to more expensive alternatives. Then there are those whether costly or not who just plain lie to you about their product. This is USPS. The fact that they are cheaper does not grant them forgiveness in my book.

If it's money they are trying to save for themselves and their customers with the current "we'll let you eventually know that it was delivered system" they need to call it what it is. It certainly is NOT tracking.

I get this letter in the mail that says (paraphrased) "We could not locate your package that you tracked so here is a check for $15.00."

What??? I never recall tracking anything, nor insuring it for $15.00.

Someone said to me, don't argue with them "Take it and run!"

    LOL!

I was selling an item for $15.00 on Ebay, but can't remember anyone complaining they didn't get, nor do I remember any tracking.

Considering that USPS doesn't have "Tracking" but instead has "Delivery Confirmation" it actually works quite well. When the item gets delivered you get a confirmation. If all you knuckleheads knew what you were talking about there would be nothing to whine about!

Joe Mama: USPS claims Registered Mail can be tracked from location to location: http://bit.ly/3zyjz2. Also, people have reported that delivery confirmation is useless as well. They simply shouldn't offer these services if they can't deliver (pun intended) on them. Delivery confirmation 2 weeks after delivery is not helpful.

    Hi.

I am extremely frustrated! I Express Mailed a large envelope size from Dillon Colorado to Northglenn Colorado, signed the waiver to leave it in the MAIL BOX. The recipient never got the envelope, research showed the delivery person has someone (a babysitter) sign for it, and thae envelope disappears!

One employeee has been helpful in trying to recover it, but the carelessness of the delivery person is appalling.

    A. They should have just left the envelope in the mail box
    B. The signature was not even required
    C. The "babysitter" should NEVER have signed

Everything else in this country is going to crap, why not the postal service?

    MY MISTAKE TO TRUST ANYONE!

    Here is my tracking info:

    Processed, October 15, 2008, 10:36 am, JAMAICA, NY 11405
Foreign International Dispatch, October 12, 2008, 4:36 pm, HONG KONG AIR MAIL CENTRE, HONG KONG
Foreign Acceptance, October 10, 2008, 5:43 pm, HONG KONG

Well, today is october 20, and guess what? No package yet? What does this mean? does this mean it is in customs? usually if there is a customs hold up it actually says " Inbound, being processed by customs" then when released it says "Outbound, released from customs", then it will show the package has left the facility.

this says nothing about customs. why would it be taking so long then?

Dude, they really suck. I sent an overnight package on time last night and the person I sent it to still hasn't received it. It was supposed to be there today before 3. And it's before 6 o'clock and they're already closed when I try to call customer service. The place I shipped it to is literally two hours away driving distance and it still hasn't left the place I dropped it off at according to the horrendous USPS "tracking"...it irritates me because I sent it overnight for a reason and I sent it early so it would get there today and yet, nothing. The tracking is killing me and the customer service is killing me. A bunch of lame disgruntled employees answered the phone earlier today when I called at 4 (the package was set to arrive before 3 PM). All they told me was that if it doesn't ship today, it'll ship tomorrow. Yea, no shit! What kind of information is that? I want to know where it is and EXACTLY when it will get there. What the hell is wrong with these people? They don't even know where their trucks are and what's being sent where? I could've just driven down and handed the package over myself. What a waste of $30 bucks.

I sent a package two weeks ago. A few days after I sent it, the tracking said that it arrived in the correct town but it could not be delivered and is being returned. I still haven't gotten it back. I'm hoping that it got delivered and they messed up the tracking. I don't want to pay another $15 to resend it. That same week I also sent two DVDs to two different locations (TX and PA from MN). One has been delivered and the other one says that the tracking info still hasn't been received. It astonishes me that they can't scan the barcode. I paid extra for this service but it hasn't been worth it.

It is now 4 working days later and the item has read left country ICS Los Angeles since day 2. It is a very stressful process not knowing why an international flight is taking more than 2 days? In the past it does show when it has arrived in the recipient country and when it enters and leaves customs but now I am in limbo as I do not understand why the package is still on a flight?

People yes the tracking sucks but the post deliveries more peieces and to more places then any else.. Yes package do get lost or may take longer to get to destation... If a piece you mail cost slot insure it. If u don't like the lines at the post office or the service us usps.com it's cheaper than the post by 10% and u get free tracking on package.. Give usps a chance 2009 will be a better and diffrent year for the post office

AGREE 100% USPS Tracking is a total joke. You get the item before it shows in their system. It should be called Delivery Confirmation because is sure as hell doesn't track the progress of your mail.

I agree Usps tracking is terrible. I purchased a phone from hong kong on ebay and it still says its at the foreign dispatch. This was a week ago and I'm wondering if it's stuck there.lol Oh well it will be a surprise of when I receive my phone.

Yeah it's pretty much true. Right now I'm tracking my Sennheiser headphones I bought. Did I say I was tracking them? I meant I was waiting on them because "There is no record of this item." If you want reliable tracking, use UPS/Fedex.
  71. 12/9/2008 4:55 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Yes the fact USPS tracking sucks. Updated tracking information is given every time the shipment is scanned. So in other words every time the mail truck stops to unload and reload on another way of transfer the entire shipment is scanned and then the tracking information is updated. If you ship something from Minnesota to Florida the shipment could make a few stops to get reloaded on another truck in that processes it will be scanned and you would see that when you type that number in tracking. But yeah Media Mail is slow as hell. It's got my customers all fired up.

Perhaps we should hand our health care over to the g'ment. I mean, the U.S. government is practically a monument to efficiency, results, and stewardship!

So, maybe Uncle Samuel can't figure oun how to track a box from A to B, or manage Social Security, or balance a checkbook...there's plenty of things he does do well. Things like educate our children, and.....you know.....things and stuff.

Wow, Mr. Brooklyn, "free tracking!"...I'd like to give you a free carwash*

*Carwash will not get your car clean.

USPS has the worse tracking system on the planet.
Worthless piece of shit, what is the point of a tracking number when it doesnt let you TRACK your package???
The tracking # is worthless, when you get an update a day AFTER you recieved the package.
DOWN WITH USPS. THEY EITHER NEED TO BRING UP THEIR SERVICES UP TO PAR WITH TODAYS COMPETITION AND TECHNOLOGY AVAILABLE TO USE , OR JUST FADE AWAY FOR GOOD!!!

    Interesting topic,
Word of advice about sending "Overnight/Express" to Service Members...

The only Overnight/Express is from the P.O.D. , sorry point of departure (your post office) to P.O.A. point of arrival, which will typically be a distro center in the States, before it gets sent
    "Down-Range"
Once the Military redieves the mail/packages ( again reminder this is in the States ) your Post-Office guarentee is over, as it has in fact been delivered.

Once the packages reach Iraq/Afghanastan they have to be sorted
( By U.S. Service members ) and then delivered either by Plane or Wheeled convoy.

My wife was under this misconception the 1st couple packages she sent me when the war started and it took 2-3 months to get to me.....Needless to say I was happy the "homemade cookies" were in a ziplock bag, as they could not spoil everything else at this point.

I think it is interesting the people believe that they should have accurate tracking information when searching for delivery confirmation numbers. You see in most cases (not all) that number you have is a delivery confirmation which does nothing more than state that this item was delivered somewhere in the zip code you designated. I personally think that is a joke because most zip codes have hundreds if not thousands of addresses. Now if you have an actual tracking number and it doesn't work then that is just wrong.

USPS TRACKING IS THE WORST TRACKING SYSTEM I HAVE USED. I PURCHSE ITEMS AND TRY TO SEE THE PROGRESS AND NOTHING HAPPENS. THEY ARE NO WAY NEAR THE UPS AND FEDEX TRACKING EVEN DHL HAS IT ON USPS. THEY NEED TO GET THEIR CRAP TOGETHER.I WILL NOT USE THEM AGAIN UNTIL THEY DO.

I too bought something on Ebay they used Priority Mail to send it from CN to TX three days later the tracking number still shows no record. USPS sux, It is the governhment that is why. We should use FeDex or UPS when possible. Dis I say they sux well they do.

I make a purchase on e-bay on Dec 1st. Standard shipping, stupid I thought, as I cannot receive any tracking info other than when it was shipped out on Dec.2. Glad I didn't waste any money on priority mail as it seems that sucks also! I feel sorry for the people selling their items on E-Bay. It makes you think twice about another purchase from them although they are not at fault, maybe they could get somewhere with USPS. LOL! I tried calling USPS and that was a big Joke. No human to speak with, suprised??? I have had it will the usps system and will definetly have purchases shipped through USP OR FED EX. At least they keep tracking up to date. Maybe I'll get lucky and get this package by Christmas when it is needed! Good Luck to everyone else and Happy Holidays to all and to usps. you guys suck outloud, there should be a law against this shit. They should be paying us for all the stress!!!

My package was shipped on Nov. 27th from Eastern Europe. Then it left
Argentina on Dec. 2nd. I have tried several times to "track" my package using the so called tracking number on the USPS website. Every time the result has been, "There is no record of this item". I spent $20.00 for
airmail...the only option from this internet merchant. I am still waiting for my package. SUCKS????????????? Oh, yeah!!!!!!!!

My questions is why does UPS turnover packages to the USPS instead of delivering them themselves? I ordered a package that was shipped UPS on Dec 12th. On Dec the 16th it was turned over to the USPS Bulk Mail center in the city which I live in. AS of today Dec 20th I have yet to receive it. My sister sent me a package on Monday straight USPS and I received it Dec 19th. This does'nt make any sense at all.

I no longer purchase from sellers or sites that ship via Priority Mail. Especially sites that offer Priority Mail as some enhanced "free" shipping option.

Too many times these sellers and sites hide out of stock items and slow shipping practices behind the opportuity to print a tracking number that isn't updated until the package arrives at its destination. Never ever again will I even shop when I see Priority Mail prominently offered. It's a sure sign to me that I'm about to get screwed.

I ordered an Ebay item and was given a USPS tracking #, going to the U.S postal site it told me that the item was shipped Dec 24/08 and arrived in Canada Customs Dec 27/08. From there I have to wait because the tracking # ends at the border. I now know that it arrived in Canada and will await our snail mail for delivery.

I ship from my home. On December 18, the mailman/lady picked up my priority mail package from my apartment building in NY. The package was going to Fairfax VA and contained a number of gifts for my son, grandson and daughter-in-law. Here we are, 10 days later and the package has not been received by them. The USPS tracking is a joke, because all it tells me on USPS.com is that the post office was notified that a package was being shipped. For the first time ever, and what with a lot of other stuff is going on around me, I forgot to insure the package. I don't give a damn about that, but I DO give a damn that my 7 year old grandson received ZERO from Mrs. Santa Claus this year.

United States Postal SERVICE? What service? It's an abomination. Next year - Fedex.

There should be some way that these problems can be fixed or prevented.

They do suck! I ordered somethings online on December 22nd, 2008 costing me almost $100. The site where I ordered from said it would be shipped using USPS when they sent me a Order Confirmation, I got a Shipment Confirmation on the 25th, they said it had been shipped out on the 24th. I tried tracking my items on USPS.com with my label number & all it said was it was processed & shipped out of their facility. I checked again & it said it arrived at a Unit in my city on December 29, 2008. On the 30th of December I thought it was going to be finally mailed to me. I was wrong, I waited until today, January 2nd, 2009 & I never got it yet, I checked again on USPS.com & it hasn't changed it said it arrived at a unit in my city. I already talked to one of the USPS units in my town, now I have 2 more to go to and ask because the first one said they didn't have anything for me. What I wanna know is how come my package has been at one of there units ever since December 29th & they haven't delivered it to me yet! I've had things delivered to me by USPS also after I ordered the first thing & even got it before that! It's funny how the most expensive thing I order online hasn't been delivered to me yet because it's supposedly still "at their unit".

Every time I order from Amazon they split my order and some items ship UPS and I have them in a couple days with full tracking status so I know where my package is at all times, then there is USPS... sigh! USPS is a joke and there tracking system is worthless! I get items from UPS days before USPS states that my item has left there shipping facility. It usually takes me 8-10 days or more to get an item shipped via USPS, I would be embarrassed to be the Post Master with this track record.

    Eric...
  97. 1/7/2009 10:59 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I had a similar experience, ordering something online and being assured it would be here in time for Xmas, only to have the USPS fail me. I complained to the online company and they said that their claim of pre-xmas delivery was based on assurances from ... the USPS. Nothing really new here.

So I told them that if I considered ordering from them again it would only be if they did not ship my order USPS. Right now, I am awaiting 3 different orders from Amazon and all of them have been shipped USPS. Did something suddenly changed that USPS is a more attractive shipping option? I am going to specify from here on in when ordering on line that I will not approve charges unless they have alternate shipping to that of USPS.

I am sorry to take sure a hard line on a gov't institution but when you combine the lack of real tracking...(the USPS site calls it tracking!) and the very slow delivery that makes buying something online into a "hold your breath" experience, I have to go somewhere else.

I posted a letter from the UK last post on 29th December,2008 using Airsure service. It arrived ICS USPS New York on 30th December as stated lol : Inbound International Arrival

Your item arrived in the United States in ISC NEW YORK NY(USPS) at 9:36 PM on December 30, 2008. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

As of today the letter has NOT been received by the recipient in Florida. I paid a fair amount so this would get there within 3-5 days..well it did get to USA quick (within 24 hours)..once in the USA though it is down to the USPS. I even called USPS yesterday and was informed they only have the same information as I have as per the track and confirm system..What a joke !!!!!!!

To those comparing Priority Mail and First Class Parcel service -- don't waste your time because they are the same thing -- it's just a matter of how much the item weighs. Sending something 13 ounces or less via Priority Mail is a complete waste of money.

I agree that the USPS "tracking" system is a complete joke. There are scanners all over the system (most letter carriers have them) but the data never seems to get uploaded to the web.

I sent this pckg yesterday as express shipping to the next state over in PA and its the folling day and it still says "there is no record of this item" It makes me freaking nervous cuz i sent a $200 instinct phone in the mail to someone who bought it on EBay and I dont want to lose out on the money. Its bad enough that EBAY and PAYPAL( more crooks that they are, which happened to be owned by each other) each take a cut of the stuff, but Paypal will not release funds to you until it is confirmed that the pck was delivered otherwise I have to rely solely on the honesty of people(the buyer) USPS SUCKS BAD

USPS is a joke. Not only does the tracking not work - but out here in PA we have other issues. Without fail when I go to the post office and get a next day envelope under the "Guaranteed next day delivery" sign, package up my mail and take it to the counter, I am told that this location does not have overnight delivery, but instead it will take 2-3 days. The only time I do not encounter that is when I am mailing something to a bordering state. I wonder why its offered and why the guarantee delivery when they don't even offer the service to a lot of locations at least from PA. Another thing is, they re-did the routes recently and everything is being delayed. I paid to have something shipped 2-3 days, and here we are, 7 days later and still no package. Tracking is a joke so I don't even try anymore. Its insane.. and very frustrating.

ARRGGGHH! why are packages scanned BEFORE delivery???? I have had several experiences where the online tracking says item arrived but have yet to see the package. The seller gets thier money and I get nothing, and I have no case because the online tracking says DELIVERED!

And today I tracked a package it says "item arrived at unit" but my postman hasn't even arrived yet???? WOW!

Usps is retarded, i bought a Movado watch for my wife on dec 15th 2008. And today its been a month since the "item" was received by them. I´ve called numbers from the customs to Canada post to see if they know what this is happening, and they have no idea. The seller is clueless and making a claim today. I wanted to give this to my wife as a gift for xmas, which was still 2 weeks away from the day i bought it and it was a total failure, i felt so bad...
Since that day i´ve got things that come from Hong kong and they arrive in matter of 5 days, and i only paid like 2 dollars for the mailing for those items. While the Movado comes from Florida and it cost me somewhere around 20$...
I just regret that i never used usps before and I didnt know it was such a crappy system.

Oh, no. I thought I would be getting my package shipped fast, but reading all these posts, I'm now scared that it will never come. USPS has been updating the product delivery very frequently... until the last post which was, "The product was processed and left our Sacramento, CA, 95834 facility on January 18, 2009". Today is January, 20, and I'm hoping it will come today, if not... well... it's going to take forever. I hope not though. :)

So uhh, WHERE IS MY PACKAGE!. I can’t believe the vendor used USPS. I just spent $700 and was told I would receive the item in 2 business days... It is now January 28, 2009. The above statement is the most current tracking info. I can’t afford to misplace a $700 item. It was in SD!! As of 8 days ago. I’m in MN! WTF. Calling customer service is no help. They tell me it should arrive any day now...WHAT! This was 2 day delivery it’s been 8. I am livid right now. If USPS were a man I would kick him in the nuts! I was told my package would arrive yesterday or today. So naturally, I go to the USPS tracking site, which the sender had sent me (with the tracking number). I click on the site from the e-mail, just to see if my package is arriving today. I cant even connect to there tracking site, with a message that says I keep getting cut off. After a few tries, I finally access the tracking number, and it says that it has left my local post office. Thats funny, the mail man didnt bring any packages TODAY!! This is totally ridiculous. I tried clicking on the details, however that led me to another dead connection as well. This is the UNITED STATES postal service, they should get there shit together!! Why does a postal office, powered by our own government, have the laziest and most unhelpful services? I really wish I could burn USPS RIGHT NOW!!!

Well, since this seems to be the place to tell these sorts of stories...

I have a little toy video player for the kid of a friend of mine lost somewhere in the mail right now. It was coming from Hong Kong. According to the USPS tracking, it arrived safely in Jamaica, NY Friday before last. After that, on Saturday, it went to Charlotte, NC. Since this is close-ish, I had hoped it would be in my mail box on Monday or Tuesday. What a silly person I was for thinking that.

I even signed up for alerts and stopped tracking (Thursday or so).

So...After a week of waiting for this package from Hong Kong to make the momentous journey from the interior of the state to it's far western edge, I decided to track it "one more time." (I had not gotten an alert...don't know why they offer them.)

It's gone back to Jamaica, New York and has a departure scan. I suspect it's going to Hong Kong again. It would be nice if it had *ever* once listed the anticipated destination or indicated that there was something awry. The company I ordered from had confirmed my address and obviously some one could read the label well enough to get the item to the correct state. Just that one little step left...

I believe what most people here don't realize is that USPS doesn't even offer tracing. The service you are talking about is USPS Delivery Confirmation, which is exactly what the name implies. The "tracking number" usually only tells you whether or not the package has been delivered or not. Also, where eBay is concerned, often sellers on eBay take their sweet time in getting packages sent out, and often use services such as USPS Parcel Post which is cheaper but can take over a week to be delivered.

Along with tracking goes route. What path is it taking? DHL picks up my purchased item in Thailand and drops it off in Hong Kong. USPS is a limited partner of DHL for small parcels so a USPS tracking number is assigned there. If I had a clear view of all of the US west coast I would have seen my parcel aboard the plane enter the country and disappear on its way to the east coast. It gets processed and sent out from USPS Jamaica, NY nine days ago, sent back to the west coast to Oregon. And now while writing this I see a post office truck come into the apartment complex and park in my parking spot 3285 in front of apartment 3283. She goes to 3283, gets no answer and gets back into her truck with the parcel in hand. I'm thinking, well I guess it was wasn't for me as I see her stop in front of our letter boxes for a moment and takes off. I wonder what are the chances? So I walk out and open my box and sure as hell there's the 'Sorry, we missed you' note. We're clearly marked beside our doors but it makes no difference! It's like watching the theatre of the absurd.

Well, if you read the usps site there is no claim for a tracking system, it is delivery confimation only. The carrier scans it at the door and is updated once they sinc the handheld, if they don;t sinc it it doesn't happen.

Also they used to track things when this feature first was avaialable, which slowed the mail down more than now. The decision was made not to raise prices and not ack it the whole trip due to man power. Reason items cost more for other carriers. i have been shipping from ebay for many years and only lost one snet priority mail package. I have had more ups come up missing, yes it is insured but still a hassle. I also have never not had a priority package not arrive, might be more than 3 days, might have tire tracks, lol, but they always arrived. Parcel post is another issue, many people use it and say a couple of days, when it is 10 usually. Pay more moeny and quit complaing if you don't like usps, option is yours to choose, also only buy from those who use ups/fedex and pay the premium for the better service.

i agree they loose every thing and then when they do not they damage it and then say it is not there fault
i have newspapers that get torn all the time and they that i need to get a bigger slot /
it is regualtion size because i had to buy it at the store instead of building one that was to be bigger in the first place,
that is what the post office made me do.
and i say they need not to shove 3 inches of mail into an 2 1/2 inch slot
and need to make 2 drops.
they say in onawa iowa that they only are required to make one drop and not 2
    drops
that if we do not like it we can get a post office box.

ya they are going to try to make any story to make you spend money that you do not need to spend to tiring to finance there malfunctioning system.

I even had mail stole for month and the post office said that there was no one stealing the mail.
I tole them in onawa iowa many times that is was being stole and still they did not believe me.

over 6 month later they found out
    i was never apologized to
i lost my life insurance because this mail carer had stole my mail

i was with out life insurance for over 2 years because of this till i asked my
insruance company what my payment was one day and say said that they canceled me.
i told them what happened and it took at least 6 months to get it back

if i would have died during that time my wife would have been without the insurance.

i found out later that it was the post master was retiring from the post office and did not want the black mark.
to where he would have never got his retirement

i say money is gread and the California company that wanted to start nation wide
postal service come on all the people out here are wanting you
instead of the bureaucrat in the Washington dc

all government in the united states needs working on and i have no respect in them

Boy, I'm just finding out how right you all are. I'm trying to find out the name and address of items I've been getting in the mail and then charging my account for items I did not order. USPS and their "tracking number" is a crock.
What ever happened to consumer protection? It looks as though they're interested in the thieves and to hell with the victims.
  124. 4/3/2009 6:28 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
Hello: I have a question and issue. hen the post office was created it was to insure delivery through rain, sleet, snow, whatever and that was by horse without any zones orzips to assist. Less than two years ago one could ask for tracking without any special douments, just by the addresses and zips and you would be shown when an item was delivered at its location. Now, with more technology and alleged tracking, a simple package now cannot be tracked and, by this site, the USPS fails in delivery on many occassions. Does the original motto of the USPS still apply. If so, maybe all those having complaints should seek a lawyer willing to take on the USPS because it fails to meet its motto of always delivering. All the tech of today has to be easier then a horse, and thy always seemed to be able to do it then, even if it took a year, it made its way. A class action for the USPS's failures might put a spark back into it.
I just wish to locate a package, that use to be easy and now cannot be done without a tracking slip, which by this site fails miserably. If someone knows a good lawyer, should show him this site and ask if he or she would be interested.

OMG I'm so glad I found this site. I've had something that has been "sitting" in NY for over a week now and even calling USPS they don't know anything. USPS BLOWS and I will never use them for anything personally. The person that said they should die of cancer of the face wasn't too far off. DO NOT USE USPS if you can help it. They completely suck and are totally worthless!
  126. 4/16/2009 7:18 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I would like to comment on Joe Moma comment fron 100108. Yes, USPS has delivery confirmation but it isn't worth nothing if it is not updated. I ship everday using USPS Priority Mail with delivery confirmation and some items with signature confirmation. Majority of my shipments deliver in 2-3 business days in the US. The problem is when you pay for delivery confirmation and the carrier does not take the time to scan the package as delivered or delivers it and do not get the signature. If there is a problem with scanning an item, then the numbers should be keyed in. I have paid for signature confirmation many times. The package gets delivered but it never shows delivered. If it wasn't for honest buyers I would be at a lost.
  127. 4/16/2009 7:20 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I contacted the delivering post offices and the clerks stated that the packages had not arrived the delivery station yet. When I go to the post office to get a refund, the supervisor states that he can't prove that it was delivered because it is not showing delivered. I advised him the package was delivered in 2 days and my customers stated they received it. If it does not show delivered by now it is not going to. I told him this has happened with several of my packages. He asked me if I could bring in documentation. He stated that once a package arrives the delivery location it is suppose to be scanned and when it delivers it is suppose to be scanned to show delivered also. When I spoke to a customer service rep at the 8OO number, one rep said it should only show when the package has delivered. I called back and spoke to another rep, and she said the post office is suppose to scan every package at the pickup location and when it is delivered. When I spoke to employees at the post office, they stated that is not true. There is no way they can scan every package. Evidentally, there is a break down in training and communication with the Postal Service. Nobody can give you the same answer. There needs to be extensive training. Although the postal service handles more mail and is cheaper it is no excuse. If customers are paying for delivery confirmation and signature confirmation that is what we should get. I understand it is not a perfect world but I should be able to get my money back without a problem if it does not show. I will never ship First Class Mail. It is just more room for error. The longer your item is out there, the more chances it will get lost or stolen. Also, never ship a high value item with USPS and insure it. In most cases this is a red flag to be stolen especially when it is marked at a very high value. In my opinion, I would use Fedex as an alternative. Recently, I mailed a package to Greece by USPS Priority Mail. I created the label online and dropped it off at the Post Office. I don't see any tracking. It only shows my label was created online. Today is the 15th day and it still shows the same thing. The rep at the 800 customer service number put in an inquiry with Greece for status but stated they have 23 days to respond. This is not going to do me any good. I hope the buyer is honest and that it has been delivered. I ship internationally all the time via USPS Priority Mail and all of the packages normally arrive the delivering countries in 10 days or sooner. I only had one package that shipped USPS Priority Mail to Canada and it did not show any scans but delivered. All the packages I have shipped internationally via USPS Priority Mail have showed a scan out of the country and when it reached the destination country except one. If you do use USPS and you create your labels online, print a scan form and have your carrier scan the form or have it scanned at the post office. When you create a label online and drop it off at the counter, it is only going to show that the label was created online if nobody ever scans it. I was told again by a rep at the 800 number that USPS Priority International Mail does not provide tracking and that all scans are a courtesy. She stated only Express Mail and Global Express Guaranteed provide tracking. I guess I have been lucky with international shipments because they always show scans when they are exported, arrive destinaton country and in most cases delivered.

and NEVER USE A POSTAL MONEY ORDER! I bought some motherboards....the items were sent COD, just junk motherboards from old first generation pentiums thrown in a box. The USPS guarantees nothing. I lost $125 on a purchase and was told "you accepted the package". I was told I had to take it up with the company I purchased the stuff from. (of course, the number is bogus) Postal money order only protects the person receiving the cash, not the buyer.

  131. 5/4/2009 5:28 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
If the USPS has this much trouble delivering packages with an arcane tracking system, I suspect the original programmers/operators/support left the company and the remaining employees continue to use a system with no internals! If you find tracking information sporadic and incorrect, it might be that someone is entering it manually because no one knows the system to automate it.

Last week i have placed an order on e-bay i had only one option for shipping via USPS priority international mail.
I taught so that's not expensive:)
I,m from Holland and i have shipped a lot of stuff from the United States to Holland always with UPS or Fed-ex and never had problems.
of course is UPS or DHL Fed-ex exc. not cheap now i know why!
I even didn’t knew about your national postal service, i,m sorry about that.
Well think i have learned very much last couple of days about USPS.
My shipment was posted on 29 April 2009 from Detroit to The Netherlands.
I received an e-mail what says this:
    Status:
    Electronic Shipping Info Received
The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on April 29, 2009 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

This is now for 7 days on there website no updates at all.
I went on google and typed USPS sucks, so i came on this forum.
What can i say about USPS i think here is a lot written about them.
No Tracking at all, what a joke never seen such a stupid service like this.

The Dutch National and International postal service TNT have much better track and trace service like this from UPS, Fed-ex or DHL.
For me the first and the last time shipping with USPS.
I think that company’s like USPS have no rights of existing this days with there misleading service, or better to say no service at all and it doesn’t matter is government or privet company.

Yeah, cheap and good is impossible! What do you expect?
  134. 5/8/2009 6:43 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
USPS tracking is very good example of how a govt. agency runs things......now we are facing this kind of wonderful service in all aspects of life, banking , health care, auto industry, internet. I guess if everything sucks hard , we won't notice our demise.

I have an item I am waiting for that was mailed from Kharkov, Ukraine April 24, 2009. Tracking shows it was delivered to NYC December 3, 2007.

Problem is, they may be psychic as to it being sent 18 months in the future, but I live in San Diego.

  136. 5/15/2009 7:38 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
For the few people that are praising the USPS for their cheap rates, have you compared rates lately? Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but in my experience with most packages, priority mail is only slightly cheaper than UPS or Fedex if the package takes up less than 1 cu.ft. of space. And the tracking sucks and you get $0 insurance unless you pay extra. If the package is any larger, it usually costs far more than UPS or Fedex. What's the point?

For those that are saying its cheaper to ship USPS, have you done any comparison shopping lately?

Wow, everything on here seems to be right where I'm at. I can't believe that the USPS can not enforce their employees to do a 1/4 second scan of a box as it is loaded. I used to work at UPS and if you were not doing your scans for some reason....you got talked too a couple of times and written up....then you got dismissed. I really don't think that firing a few employees is gonna matter as from what I understand gov. jobs usually pay pretty well and have good benefits should be pretty easy to fill the spot with someone "TRAINABLE" like a monkey. monkeys can eat alot of bananas on a full time salary. sigh....ranting.....

For those that are expecting international shipment via express mail: Per my conversation with a post office rep, express mail from foreign country, once arrived in the US, will be delivered by USPS via the normal first-class service, NOT priority or express. My experience? Took a pkg less than 72 hrs to go from Spain to US (NYC), then 13 days from NYC to Dallas...enough said? Also, USPS tracking is a joke
  139. 5/22/2009 2:26 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
to put it bluntly, I ordered some items online. not only did they come separately when they were to be delivered at the same time, the box the items was delivered in was torn open and wet. plus, the tracker failed to update. USPS is a joke.

    Hey JJ,
I didn't "buy" anything from them. The shipper gives me a link to something called "Track and Confirm". Can you see how that might be a little misleading? They should also stop telling me to "check back later" as if they are going to have something to tell me. I've never gotten any useful information from them. What they should say is "Keep checking the mailbox".

USPS does suck.. I'm expecting some equipment that I'll use for work ( I work in a government building, a BIG government building ) and according to their "tracking" they tried to deliver on Monday at 2:30 PM.. THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEBODY AVAILABLE TO TAKE PACKAGES ! THIS IS A F*CKN GOVERNMENT BUILDING, YOU DONT LEAVE A "SORRY, MISSED YOU" NOTE. So, I call up USPS, they give me the number of the USPS Post office where the package is being held, call 'em up, give them the Label/Recipt Number, my phone number and they tell me that they'll call me when they confirm that the package is indeed in THAT Post Office.. almost 4 hours later, nothing. I call the Post Office and nobody picks up. This is f*kn ridiculous

I went to the post office, talked to the person in charge of that particular post office and the where about of my package are just unknown. Yet again I'm told that they'll call me before 5 to give me any sort of update.. I dont the call. NOW its 10:30PM and I just check the tracking bullcrap system they have and it says the they delivered the package at 10:30AM of today !!!!!!! well how come none of the employees that work with the incoming mail at the building dont have the package ?????? Mind you I called at 1PM and they didnt have anything for me, and they are very quick to call me when I have a package waiting for me.. Now I just have to wait 'till tomorrow and see if indeed the package was "delivered" as the status says.

I Hate USPS! I bought an item from Ebay, A t-mobile g1 and payed $130.00 for it. It's been seven days no sign of it, no tracking number that works. The last I heard of it was when the seller sent me a delivery confirmation in email that the item has been shipped. I'm BIG TIME WORRIED. I hope it gets here. IT'S GOING ONLY FROM HOLIDAY, FLORIDA TO ATLANTA, GEORGIA! THAT'S IT! NO MORE USPS. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME IT HAS HAPPENED.

I sent my tax forms to the State of California on April 15th. Last week I got a notice saying I hadn't paid my taxes. When I checked into it, I discovered that my forms got sent to and signed for by the IRS in Fresno, California instead - even though my certified mail clearly listed the item to be sent to Sacramento, California. Worst, the IRS CASHED my tax payment check and stamped over the top of the payee with "US TREASURY". Weirdly, I did get a letter from my post office admitting the error in delivery. Lets see if the State of California will wave my late fees based on that letter (don't hold your breath).

We should pay our bill online instead of using their services. However, the suckest part is our government is supporting this stupid service, even if we don't use it, they still gonna increase the shipping rate and keep those lazy bass sitting there for the rest of their life. Our economic is hitting the ground and so many people are losing their job, but those who work with no brain... still remaining in there place and wasting our money by providing a horriable service

I have to agree that USPS sucks and - pretty soon - they will be out of business. E-mail, FedEx and - maybe UPS - will do it!

Tracking is a joke and one has to pay extra to get it - ridiculous! And when "tracking" is provided, it is sooo un-reliable that it is useless.

As a remark for somebody venting their anger on USPS, who got a parcel from Europe, Czech Republic and was mentioning "third world country"... All European countries have decent tracking Postal Service systems, that can provide in a timely manner info from the pick-up all the way till the mailing goes through the US Customs and is handed to USPS. After that, there is a black hole. Nobody knows where is the package and when it will be delivered. So - which one is the "3-rd world country" - CR or US?!? Americans, wake up!

Well, I ordered a netbook from eBay and unfortunately I only has USPS as my shipping option. I didn't know it sucked so bad. I chose express service expecting it to reach within a week as I was shipping from US to Nepal.

Its been 16 days precisely and I can only see International Dispatch on its tracking page. It sucks. I hate it.

They are a group of f@#king morons who can't even update a tracking code. Why do they even give this facility if they just can't provide it properly. I pray and hope that my netbook is safe and I get it within a few more days.

I brot something online and it is being shiped thru USPS from US to UAE(Middle EAST) Dubai.
However its been more than a month now and my shipment has not arrived, i tried all that i could usps does not reply, and i contacted local postal service in UAE they confirmed that it has not arrived in UAE.

USPS TRULY DOES SUCK!!!!!i would have rather paid a 100$ or even a 1000$ even when the price of the product i brot is 35$ and rather goten it shipped by FEDEX / TNT / DHL or something :(

    USPS LOOOSERS
This is my sole opinion, and no ones responsible for this other than me!

Then try reading and comprehending the definition:

Think of the USPS as third world country run by dictator's. They have no reason to improve. Funny thing is now there is a hard push to turn health care over to this type of invironment in the US. Go figure.

People should stop saying to get Express Mail because it has "proper" tracking. I sent a package 4 days ago Express Mail, which was supposed to be overnight. Not only has it not gotten there, the idiotic "tracking" has only one event -- that is was accepted at the post office I took it to. So 4 days into this, the only thing USPS knows is that I took the package to them at my local post office.

When you think about, why does the USPS even exist as it does. Over 98% of my mail goes right into the recycle bin as their subsidized rates allow marketing companies to level whole forests to send tons of paper crap that 99.999999% of the people will never read. I do all my bill paying online. I never send letters. And if I have something to deliver, I use a delivery service. My mistake here was assuming the USPS is a delivery service. Silly me!!! I'll never use USPS for anything again. What a total farse of a business. I hope they are disbanded and every worthless person there loses their job. It's nothing less than they deserve for providing such horrible service to their customers. If they weren't a govenment sanctioned monopoly, they would have ceased to exist long ago.

"LOL @ You cry babies..,go outside and get some exercise. It will get there when it gets there. The world does not revolve around you and your package."

J, you're missing the point. We paid USPS money to provide a service. If I pay extra to have a package arrive in 2-3 days then that's exactly when it should arrive.

9/3/2009 3:53 AM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I'm surprised by all of this, because with all of my endeavors with the USPS, I've never had one single problem. Anything I shipped whether it be Express or Priority got there within the timeframe it said (I've sold Phila. Eagles tickets overnight to eBay purchasers without problem) so again all of these problems surprise me. Right now, I have a package being shipped from Hong Kong, said it was accepted on September 3rd, at 1:48pm. I'm assuming this is Hong Kong local time, as it is 6:48am on the 3rd here right now. Give or take customs, I would assume it would get here sometime next week (Fed-Ex took forever with my MacBook Pro that was shipped out of Shanghai, I think about two weeks.)

Another thing that people aren't seeming to grasp is this - the USPS doesn't specialize in packages like FedEx and UPS do. That's why their services and tracking are much more reliable. USPS offers shipping as an extra service and a cheaper alternative however more prone to mistakes because of the volume of mail and other parcels being processed. If the USPS were to be abolished, that would mean either UPS or FedEx would have to pick up the slack. Once that happens, see if they're as reliable as they are now. They wouldn't be. USPS handles multiple mail items for almost every house in the US, as well as the packages being sent, whereas FedEx and UPS only handle parcels, not necessarily to every house, but by item count, I'm sure it's not even close to the amount of "items" the USPS handles per day.

Anyway, so yeah. Maybe I've just had decent luck with them, who knows. I'll have to see how this package being sent to me goes along. It was sent Registered Mail, too... Never had that before.

Well did you ever notice how many blacks work in the post office? What do you expect. I mailed an important letter (check) 3 weeks ago. Destination was 30 miles away, same state. gave the letter to a black postal worker who pissed off that the door was not locked and that i got into the post office 30 seconds before they locked the door. As I left the post office i knew the look of that nigger that the check would not get to its intended destination. Sure enough i was correct and I ended up driving the a new check to the destination. This is also what happens to our packages. You can blame agenda in hiring postal workers that seem to favor blacks/hispanics and other non-europeans. Another triumph of multiculturalism.

How can the postal service compete when they cannot deliver the package.
A package was deposit in Texas to be sent to the UAE Dubai
Deposit on the 17th of October it is now the 26th of October, where is the package tracking only shows it was deposited with USPS, even though they say track this we will send updates, I have not seen any updates, nor the package
it took 3 days using DHL, it took 4 days using Fedex, but you could track where it goes and expect delivery time.
This UPSP sucks as the papers enclosed are vital, insurance is not the things replacing the papers is vital.

I am an ebay power seller and ship over 200 packages a month with USPS fist class delivery confirmation with Paypal shipping. I never had a missing package when I lived in two previous cities, but now for some reason about ten percent of my merchandise is going missing. Often it shows up with the package opened and the contents missing, and I know it's not the customer because the mail handlers will also put a signed sticker on it that says "delivered unsealed" i have complained and complained, i get ignored, or they tell me that without insurance there's nothing they can do. That's what really burns me about USPS, what other business in the usa could get away with saying "either buy this insurance protection or we're not responsible for what WE do with your package!"
it's a racket and these employees are stealing my merchandise and getting away with it!

You know WHY they suck? Because we failed to check on their service BEFORE using it. Here I am waiting for my small package since nov 19th and not knowing what to do..We have to write and complain to amazon, estarland, ebay and any other selle and tell them we're not gonna buy ANYTHING from them while they insist on USPS. all of you are retarded..usps priority with delivery confirmation(what you all are calling tracking) is just that..delivery confirmation. Its used to the sender to see if it got to its destination ok. Its NOT a day by tracking like it with ups or fedex. Please understand this..and you will see that USPS tracking doesn't suck..because you arent talking about their tracking. You are complaining about the delivery confirmation not showing tracking.

The USPS does have a tracking, and it is great, but the confirmation delivery is pointless because you do not get your package when you should. You are stuck with worrying, i believe that they should offer tracking and confirmation together. It should not be a choice; it would help out alot. But i totally understand everyone on here. I mean my package was shipped Nov.18 and here it is Dec. 4. I called in about it, and they told me to wait 1-2 business days for results, so hopefully tomorrow i will know what is going on.

I have lost 3 ebay purchases being shipped to me thanks USPS. I avoid ebay now unless if the seller uses ups or fed ex same as with other online shopping. I think usps is stealing packages with this many lost packages there are no excuses. I have never had one single issue with ups/fed ex with something being lost. Also their tracking system is a joke in 2009 still. One time I checked tracking at 2am it said delivered on a package that never got here way before mail even went out lol. So people from usps are thieves and cannot be trusted.

I e-mailed USPS to ask how to start an investigation, but after 4 days no reply (website says answer within 2,5 days). When I call, they say look at the tracking info on the site. I asked if I could go directly to ISC NY. But they said that was not possible. WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LOONNNNGGGG!!!! Never ever ever will I let things be sent through USPS. The worst service ever. It is just frustrating. I have been reading about this issue and see posts that go back years. And still the service is so bad. Why can't they improve their logistics?

I have been waiting for a check, for more than a thousan dollars. My most recent mail was tossed in my front yard, like trash.

When I first called, no one answered, so I went down to the local office. They told me that no one answers the phone – our tax dollars not at work. They just let it ring and ring.

After some effort,, they gave me a phone number that I could call.

Someone was at that number, but she did not seem to care.

I think if it was her money, she may have been more concerned.

Does the post office only hire incompetent people who have no clue about the importance of mail?

It is true that most of the mail we receive is junk, but some of it matters.

I don’t know what else to say.

Should I loose tens of thousands of dollars to these thoughtless people?

I've been a Power Seller on eBay for over 10 years. By that, I mean that I ship hundreds of packages a week. I ship almost exclusively with the USPS, and I've had a hard time getting buyers to understand that tracking only comes with USPS Express Mail, not with Priority Mail. I pay for delivery confirmation to make sure my buyers receive their packages, and prevent claims of non-receipt. Although I have a disclaimer in my listings making buyers aware that they'll need to opt and pay for Express Mail to get tracking, I still get requests for the tracking number on first class and priority mailings. It's not so difficult to understand.
  212. 1/16/2010 1:31 PM | # re: United States Postal Service (USPS) 'tracking' sucks hard
I had a package that arrived in the NY ISC Customs, on January 9th. I paid for Express Mail so I could track my package, with a delivery deadline of January 15th. My mail has been stuck in customs for 7 days now. I cannot get any information from customs. They acknowledge that it is in their office, but they dont know where. Now, how can my mail arrive in your office with a tracking number, and you cant tell me where the hell it is, or whats going on with it. I agree with the person prior who got a empty package from Australia, and now has to file a theft report. I believe that items are stolen while in customs, and not being held. I understand that customs will check every international package that arrives for our safety. However, when a package is so called "held", I should be able to know why its being held, in a timely matter.

To those who have documentation of multiple items being stolen--have you tried contacting your local TV news? If you have the open boxes with the "delivered unsealed" stamps it would make a nice visual. Local TV loves--or, well, used to love--airheaded "consumer" stories like that, and it might embarrass the PO a bit.

You *could* try further up the chain, like your local Representative (Congress Critter) but then if you aren't a big donor, they might not care. (But let one of them lose a few items to "uninsured mail" and they might change their tune.

Documenting the whole clusterf*** on Youtube might also help (hey, they got AOL that way). I mean, ship an effing honeypot. It's how you get 419 scammers and hackers, right? Send something that phones home and see where it ends up. Film everything. Stand back and watch those sparks catch fire.

Personally, I think a lot of mail is going missing due to indifference under the current regime of hellish budget cuts. I had the USPS lose an oversized envelope with a check in it... I wanted to blame the demoralized local peeps at the PO but it could have gone missing anywhere. Had to put in a stop check, at $30, so I gladly paid for Certified/Return Receipt ($6) this time, much cheaper. However, nobody tried to cash the check... the dang thing just never arrived. You hear about carriers hiding mail b/c they can't deliver it all and you suspect you might just be the latest victim.

PS: I know someone who mailed a debt payment check to the IRS that got "lost in the mail". Very stressful, especially with the way IRS calculates penalties and interest. She finally wised up and had her credit union pay it off and she pays them monthly when her paychecks come in. No more foul-ups. So that sucks. But seriously, first class mail is waaaaaay cheap for what you (hopefully, most of the time) get.

I ordered a pair of sneakers from China on 12/31/2009.When I first track the package it said foreign acceptance then it said my package has left China on 01/05/2010. I checked the tracking everyday and it has not changed and today is 01/20/2010."WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON!"

USPS is another disadvantage of having union jobs and the reason why they are doing very poorly financially. My package has been held at ISC NEW YORK NY(USPS)since the 19th of december 2009 and nobody has the human decency to let me know what is going on.I am ashamed of this horrible service from a US government run company. How I wish that fedex and ups will put these failures out of business. What a horrible disgrace!

The first post was made in June 2004. That's nearly 6 (six!) years ago. So far nothing has improved in the tracking process. Technological progress did not happen for USPS. What a disgrace!

They seem to enjoy shuttling my package back and forth between Bell, Ca and San Diego, CA. for over a week now. The "updates" stopped 5 days ago and I still do not have the package. No wonder they are going bankrupt and deservedly so.

Heck this is 2010 there is no reason that tracking should not work. They do not read the addresses by hand that is all done by machine except in rare cases. So every time the address is read by a machine it should update the tracking info.

I had ordered a dress at the tail end of january via eBay from China. It arrived in ISC NY NY on the 8th. It is now the 19th and I still have yet to receive my package. The tracking has stayed the same. Btw, did I mention the current status did not appear until 3 days later?!?!

I have bought maybe 70 parcels from the us, and I live in a very isolated country Australia it is a lot further away geographically than most countries so you can only imagine the frustration I can experience. I do think usps can be good if you get express international mail only, the other just priority mail can be unreliable. The tracking might work and then might not? god knows why. I have found when sellers charge a lot it can still not be sent express and when they post something if they take a week to send it stuffs the whole process up and you get your parcel sometimes 3 or 4 weeks after you have paid for it which is really annoying and if I had of known it would take that long I would not have bought it. Any time I have it sent express international which is 40 PLUS I get it tracked and it takes a week. So you should all stop complaining because imagine living in Australia!!!!

The USPS Delivery Conf. without signature receipt by receiver is nothing more than a scam by the post office..Do not waste your money on this..I recently had an item mailed to my PO box..The morons put it in the worn box and said it was deivered and that was that..Luckly an honest person returned it to PO..Had they not I would have been out the package. Since the DC says delivered on it, and its your word agains USPS the credit card company and insurance will not pay for it..Bottom line is NEVER ship anything thur USPS without a signature by receiver unless its something you just don,t care to loose..
