• windows live writer plugins: flickr and tagging

okay, codeplex projects approved!  i've just uploaded the plugins (binary setups and source) for the two plugins i wrote for .

here's a brief description of them.

    Tag4Writer
A *very simple* content source plugin for enabling quick insert of formatted tags using a URL template.  This one is simple and could be converted to a smart content source for better usability.
    Codeplex Project:

    Flickr4Writer
A simple content source for browsing/inserting images from Flickr services.  Enter a user name, click search and view pictures.  Currently does not support uploading (hoping that another extensible model from Writer will enable that, but could also be done here).
    Codeplex Project:

these are both using the MS-PL license model (review the license tabs on the project).  please contribute, please make them better.  read the home page to join the project.

    # Thanks - Great Plugin!

I just installed the Flickr4Writer plugin and it works great. This is going to save me a TON of time manually coding HTML to show and link to my Flickr images. Thanks for getting this out to everyone so quickly.

May I make one feature suggestion: a way to authenticate with flickr to get secured (available to friends/family only) images.

    Thanks again - great work!

    Excellent tools!

(Hope you don't mind me mentioning them in an article I'll be writing on WLW soon)

please feel free to mention these all over -- as to the authenticate suggestion -- very good -- learning the flickr api has been interesting, so i went with low hanging fruit first!

These plugins are what is going to make WLW such a hit it already appears to be.

I posted my experience with both here:

is there a track back URL for this post?

Great looking Plugin and exactly what was needed. But for some reason I couldn't get the photo's to show up in the viewer.

I made a post in your forums.

    Thanks

    good job, well done.
I understand the flickr one but can you show me what the tag one is for (it's probably simple but I'm not with it, it seems.

The LiveWriter seems good - I was hoping for better image manipulation like I have in BlogDesk (a free app as well)- meaning frames around the pics etc.
Amazing that MS has let you use it on other Blogs - well done MS.

the tagging enables a very simple method to add tag url lists to your post.

the default insert image function does allow styling around the image, but you can also use the flickr plugin and apply a css style to it from your blog that may already have the desired output.

I'm really enjoying both of these plugins, thank you very much for sharing them.

You've added a majority of the obvious tagging engines to the plugin, but I wonder if you had any thoughts about adding support for "Ultimate Tag Warrior?" It is a rather popular Wordpress plugin. I'm really not sure how you would, but was just curious.

Tim, I downloaded these plugins first thing after you posted them. The tagging plugin works great. The Flickr doesn't do anything. I have entered my correct login name but when I click the download icon, nothing happens. Any suggestions?

Tim. I posted a note that the Flickr plugin wasn't working for me. I figured out that none of my photos where "public" but marked as readable by friends and family. As soon as I changed some photos to public, they showed up in the plugin just fine.

    # source control for codeplex

Tim, I'd like to bang on the flickr plugin source to see if I can't get it to work for zooomr.

Do I need to use source control or can I just ignore the source control messages when opening the source?

If you could email me at vg blog AT the gill family DOT us, that would be GREAT!!

Thanks! And thanks for the plugins!

tomeppy: i haven't heard of ultimate tag warrior -- i'll check it out

craig: yes, right now it is public photos only right now and if there are less than 4 returned in the search, it won't show (that's a bug)
