Got a great concept about Silverlight use, an application, utility, or just some knowledge you want to share but never had the place to put it?  The team at SilverlightShow have been having a contest they call Silverlight: Write and Win! and you can get some great Silverlight-related prizes such as Telerik and ComponentOne control licenses for Silverlight and WPF applications.

You have to simply write an article about your concept (application, control, whatever) related to Silverlight 2 and provide the code (under an OSI approved license) and you’ll be entered – submit as many times as you want.  The “judges” are a mix of community members and Microsoft guys that will be reviewing the content and code.

So what are you waiting for, enter the Silverlight: Write and Win! contest…you have less than 30 days left!

One of the things I love about the Microsoft developer ecosystem is the partner channels that are enabled to create great add-ons to our platforms and frameworks.  Our partners in this space usually get to the better implementations before we do, taking on the task of filling some gaps in unique implementations while our teams can focus on providing the best framework for enabling that construction.

In December of last year, Telerik showed their intentions of making a control suite for Silverlight (then v1.1).  Well now that beta 2 is released for Silverlight 2, they’ve updated their RadControls for Silverlight 2 suite and have now provided a downloadable CTP of the suite.

Their controls implement support for DataBinding, the new VisualStateManager model, Templates/Styles, etc.  Some of the controls they are providing are some that you may find interesting or enhance the existing control suite from the Silverlight core:

    • Menu
    • TreeView
    • Upload
    • RadCube
    • RadNumericUpDn
    • RadProgressBar
    • Animation framework

One of their key features is they’ve decided to make these source code compatible with WPF.  The full WPF are not yet available.  You can download the CTP for free right now on their site and view some sample implementations on their sample site.

Telerik is widely known for providing great products and this is really great to see them provide controls for Silverlight that are also compatible with WPF.  I’m excited to see this control suite evolve to release state and perhaps more from the Silverlight team at Telerik!

this time from telerik.  telerik has just announced their RAD Controls for Silverlight 1.1(2.0).  they have a site up with some demonstrations, etc. (obviously requiring 1.1 to render).  they have controls like:

    • upload
    • button
    • combobox
    • listbox
    • menus
    • progress bar
    • tab strip
    • textbox
    • treeview
    • slider
    • and some animation controls

a pretty comprehensive list.  very cool.  i've always been impressed with the partner ecosystem of microsoft 3rd party developers.  telerik is no substitute.  i knew that they'd be one that would be providing a great control story for silverlight.

take a look at their demo site and play around.

a while back i wrote a post about sharepoint and firefox...i saw a trackback to this in a forum indicating a lot of rant for microsoft not including this support.  in my original post i made reference to a partner that was enabling this for firefox users.  the link is in the post but i'll make it here again.

telerik and cross-browser editor for sharepoint 2007

done.  get it (free btw) and install it.  they have a doc to help you configure/install.

there, so no more complaining :-)
